Leaving your baby for the first time when you go on vacation.. I'm leaving on vacation in 3 weeks for 7 days. Chloe will be 7 months by that time and that will be the first time I leave her for that long. She'll be staying at my moms house but she is accustomed to being in a larger space of her own at my house. I'll probably bring her bed and all her things to my moms house for that week.. but I'm still worried. I feel bad thinking if maybe she'll think I won't come back or if she'll be upset :( What have your experiences been? |
Leaving your baby is hard, especially the first time. I think leaving with parents is the best choice for peace of mind, which will help you enjoy your trip more instead of non-stop worrying :-) |
You are so lucky to have your mom nearby! |
I am very lucky to have my dad. He and my stepmom watch Jackson for me. Otherwise I am not sure what I could do, he is terrified of strangers, would never do well in a boarding environment. And even as much as he LOVES my dad... and his house, with their 2 dogs, and the fenced in yard, etc, he still misses me. He acts a lot different when I am not there. Lays in the window a lot and waits. But he is always fine. He is usually happy to see me and then mad at me for leaving him for the rest of the day. Then he loves me again the next day, lol |
Along with her bed & things, leave her with a piece of your clothing that you've worn and has your scent on it that she can sleep with. She will no doubt be fine. You, on the other hand, will suffer separation anxiety, feel guilty, worry, call home often, and think about her all the time. LOL Now go have a good time!!! If she's upset with you for leaving her, her favorite treats and activities will get you a lot of forgiveness. After all, you are her favorite Mom! How do I know these things? Been there... done that! Have fun!!! |
I am leaving Gizmo for three days later this month. I have a dog sitter who will watch him at her house who was recommended to me by my groomer. I took Gizmo over to meet her two weeks ago and he liked her and her yard. Yesterday I took him over to house and left him for six hours. She said he cried and walked around the house looking for me for about 10mins which is what he does when I leave him with my boyfriend at my place. He wouldn't play with her at first and then he was fine. She even sent me a video of him playing. Next Saturday I will take him to her house and he will spend his first night away from me. If all goes well then he will stay the following weekend. I figured this would be the easiest way to help him (and me) adjust to being away from me. I took and will take his blanket, crate, three of his toys and his bowls so he had familiar things with him. I am going to add one of my shirts that was suggested in this thread. Hopefully all goes well! |
It is really hard to leave them. . . I agree leave a shirt with your smell on it. Also bring toys, food, bowls, bed and or crate, blankets, wipes, shampoo, and Nurtical to the person watching your pup. |
I would say you are more worried than your girl will be. I'm sure she will have a great time while you are gone. Your mom will most likely spoil her rotten that's what grandmothers do. Think of it as a vacation for her too and she will be excited when you come back for her. Enjoy your vacation. |

Thanks ladies, this made me feel a little better. I'm going to leave her a piece of my clothing so she can smell mommy, lol. This will probably be her vacation from me giving her topknots (which she doesn't like) and trying to groom and brush her. :p :p |
I actually just got back from a vacation and I found a woman in my area on dogvacay.com. I went and visited the woman's house, I was a little nervous with leaving Cricket because I was going on a cruise so I wasn't able to get updates as often as I liked. But I found some wifi at one of the stops and was able to check on her then. When I got back, I had even been sent a video! :) all in all, I think everything went okay. The woman that kept Cricket had 3 snauzers that she got to play with. :) |
