Whom ever said Yorkies aren't good with children....
 

Apparently my Athena didn't get that memo.......lol. She adores my 5 year old granddaughter an is really good with her. We have a little trouble with her jumping up on her, but that would be true with any puppy and she is learning very quickly to stop. Shes so smart :D. In fact I haven't seen Athena meet a person yet she doesn't like. Well, that is except perhaps the vet, but even them she seems to like as long as they aren't poking her with needles.

That's great. Callie does great with kids and likes everyone well except the 10 year old next door when she comes to the fence Callie freaks out and starts barking and she never barks. My mom said she must be a demon child for Callie not to like her and to make Callie bark.

Sakura grew up from puppyhood with my cousin's baby, to toddler and so on, coming over all the time. Sakura loves kids. I got my little man, Axel, when my sister-in-law had my nephew so he would grow up around a baby and children. Axel is just a week or two younger than my nephew. I wanted him to learn kids are great and to be able to tolerate a child. He just has to learn not to be so excited when a child is here. But other than that both my furbabies are great around children. It's the children I watch around them. :)

All of my family's yorkies have been good with kids.
They had 2 when my cousin was born, and a different 1 when I was born. We never had any problems.

Lola loves kids, she wants to lick them to death and play chase. If she sees a kid or a baby she wiggles like crazy to get to them. Sometimes my friend's 7 year old comes over to play with her.

My gino and sonny are odd balls,,,, they are not sure about kids, I would never trust them around kids. I dare say if a child pulled their coat they would nip

Bella loves kids. Of course, I would never leave them unsupervised.

We recently had our son move home with his one year old daughter. Now I raised 5 kids with animals so I do have some experience with such things so I was ready to have to save my Gracie from a child with no experience with animals.

The fact is I can't keep Gracie away from the baby. The baby has her own play area that Gracie enters with me. Gracie insists on sitting right next to the baby all the time. She will bring a toy in the area with her and the baby has learned to take the toy and wave it in front of Gracie in order to get her to come after the toy. That is a game that Gracie loves and Emma knows it. She will laugh and laugh at Gracie when she tugs at the toy but Gracie is always gentle. Gracie gets into her crazy spells rolling around on her blanket and Emma thinks that is wonderful. Gracie is always kind and gentle with Emma and Emma just loves Gracie. You would think they were play mates. Gracie has always loved kids and played with my other grandchildren that are a few years older.

I would never leave Gracie alone with Emma but we never leave Emma alone anyway unless she is in her bedroom sleeping. The only small issue we have had is Emma doesn't quite know how to pet all that long hair without getting her fingers caught in it. I think proper supervision is really important where any animal and a young child are concerned. If kids are taught kindness at a young age they will learn to be gentle as they get older.

If a person doesn't have the time to spend watching out for child and pet at all times I would not recommend putting them together at all.

The girl probably did something to Callie at some point and thats why she doesnt like her. Even just scared her or something.

I agree you should never leave children, well young children anyway, and dogs unsupervised, both for the childs sake and the dogs. Even with the most well behaved dog in the world, and child for that matter, things can still happen.

Ours do great w/ kids too, although sometimes the loudness of kids scares them a bit and they want to get away from it.

I've never heard yorkies are bad with kids at all. What I do feel is that people need to be VERY careful of having yorkies around young kids bc yorkies are so vulnerable due to their size.

I had read and been told by alot of people that yorkies werent good with kids and really that they are "one person dogs". That hasnt been true at all with Athena. Personally I think its all a matter of how you raise them, how much socialization they get ect. I mean if your a person that rarely has guest and doesnt take your dog out around people very much, including kids, of course they are going to be like that. they have to be exposed to kids/ people to learn its ok and can be fun. I have a house full of people of all ages all of the time, and I take them out alot around people. So they get all kinds of socialization. I thought that was especially important with Athena being she was so young when I got her. She was only 6 weeks old.

I have 5 month old puppy and a 3 1/2 year old son. I knew when I got her I would have to be very careful. Lexi loves my son. His favorite thing to do is lay on the floor on his back and Lexi will come give him kisses all over his face. But I will never let them be in the room together unsupervised. My son is great with her, but he could easily hurt her on accident if not careful.

We have never had any trouble with Mija around kids of any age. She is wonderful with everyone...young and old!

Troy loved kids. Especially little girls. He would snuggle up right with them .

I expose all my pets to kids so I agree it's all a matter of how you raise them.

Mine were raised with a kid my daughter and one is good with kids and one is not so I think each personality is different
