Possible allergies? The other day I took Lexi to the vet because she was biting at the inside of her back legs and groin area and saw some bumps. Found out she has pyoderma (very mild) and started treatment. Today I noticed a bad smell from her ears and dark gunky stuff in there and took her to the vet again. Found out she has a bacterial infection and started treatment. After doing some research I found both of these can be a sign of allergies. She scratches with her back legs around her back and neck a lot and bites to scratch at her back and tail too. She does NOT lick or bite her paws which I know is a sign as well. Does this sound like allergies? I have her next appointment next week and will discuss it with the vet, but wanted to get some feedback here in the meantime. Thanks! |
Yup. Welcome to my world. |
Is there anything you found to help with the itching? |
We use Atopica |
Yes, this does sound like allergies. Did her symptoms start w/ spring or were they there in winter too? If they just started, you may be able to treat for seasonal allergies. However if they're year round (ie, like allergic to dust etc), then you'd want to treat it differently. I'd get her on fish oil like Ark Naturals Royal Coat asap. And read this thread for detailed info: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...tart-here.html |
My dog gets yeast infections in her ears. My vet and I are thinking that these are food related allergies. I think that she is allergic to chicken. Maybe your dog has food allergies as well? |
I've only had her for a month so I'm not sure if it would be seasonal or not. I have no idea how to tell if it's food or something else. Hopefully the vet will have some ideas. I feel bad when I see her scratching so much. I also started giving her a skin and coat supplement today to see if that helps the itching. She seems to have dry skin too. I can see small white flakes on her skin. |
