Max annual benefit??? Is $14,000 a good amount for this? With so many insurance companies to research I want to make sure I'm getting a good one. Already checked out Trupanion and Healthy Paws but they don't cover wellness and it would be nice to get some of that money back. VPI looks nice but that yearly benefit allowance concerns me a little. Any suggestion on a company that provides hereditary coverage, neutering, as well as wellness? |
Go with Healthy Paws, insurance is for emergency, not wellness. VPI will also raise your rates as your pup ages. We had VPI for 13 of our Sig's 14+ years, they covered 40%-60% of claims, the wellness cost more in premiums then if you paid out of pocket. HP's 90%, $100 annual deductible is $38 with no limits, that's hard to beat. I started a thread about having a savings account rather then having VPI again, till others here got me researching other insurance companies. Heres a list of companies, call them and ask what they cover versus cost, then calc it out to see value Compare dog insurance - Pet Insurance Review understand what benefit schedule means, it doesn't mean 90% of bill |
Trying to beat the 5 minute buzzer, VPI says 90% of Benefit schedule, this does not mean 90% of bill. We had a $1500+ root canal done when Sig was 4, VPI paid aboy $600 Ask Healthy Paws what 90% means, then ask VPI same question and see which is better value/protection |
Pet Plan is what we have. Mina was ill in March 3 visits to vet including one to the EC on the weekend. Total bill for this illness $700. I got back $600. I also keep a fund for dog emergencys. This is added to each month and it has paid off. I walked into the EC knowing that I could cover the bill and knowing that I was going to get most of it back to return to the fund was nice as well. |
Yes, that max per year is adequate unless you are any owner who would go to extremes for fancer treatment, kidney transplants, etc. VPI has a benefits schedule and I wouldn't touch it. Routine care dan be budgeted for and all it would do is make your monthly payment way more expensive. That said, Embrace has a nice wellness program as a rider and you do save a nice chunk as long as you will use the whole amount. |
I have embrace. I wanted a higher deductible for less premium monthly. I bought the wellness plan too. |
