Micro chip Hello Friends, I am thinking about putting a micro chip in Molly. I am very careful when ever I open our front or back door up, but I have 3 sons and a hubby who is not as careful as I am. I was wondering how you all felt about it? |
My dog has one. ANYTHING that can give me even a 1% greater chance of maybe getting him back again if he were lost from me is a very good idea. Tibbe never seems to notice he's got it in place. |

You also want to make sure that she has a collar with a tag on it. A lot of people do not check for microchips or do not want to take a dog some where to get scanned so a tag will get you your dog back faster. |
Yazmin's microchipped and wears a ID tag. Unfortunately, I don't trust relying on a ID tag only. God forbid if she were ever stolen, a collar can easily be removed, a microchip would prove I am her rightful owner. Also, if she were to get lost, I feel much more secure knowing I've done everything possible to see that she's makes it home as quickly as possible. ;) |
I went to the pet expo this past weekend and bought Gizmo a name tag. The woman engraved his name on one side and the phone number on the other. She said she tells all her customers to put "Need Meds" under the phone number. She said if Gizmo gets lost, the odds are pretty good that they will return him because most people don't want a dog with medical issues. I personally think this is good idea. ;) |
Yes, I believe all dogs should be chipped AND they should always read a collar with a tag.....ALWAYS!!!!! As for the running out the door issue that in itself needs to be addressed for safety reasons. I've trained mine on 2 levels. First, they are never allowed in or out the front door on my home. Not for any reason. Do not allow your kids or husband to take him outside through the front door. Additionally, you need to work on him not bolting out the door. The way that I did this by keeping a harness and leash on at all times. Have people come to the door and when you open the door step on the leash to stop him from going on the door and make him sit THEN offer a treat. The leash will make him incapable of running out and the treat will reward his stay. Eventually, if you keep working on this he will learn to not bolt. You can do the same at the back door as well but once he sit/stays you can then release him to go in the yard. I can open the front door and never worry about any of them running out.
