New here and already finding answers Hi, I'm new here. Recently adopted Joffrey from shelter. He's around three years old and neutered. Not sure if he's a Yorkie or a Silky but he's precious. Thing is, now that he's settled in a bit, he's biting our fingers, hands, etc. I'd tried the high pitched yelp already and it only worked for a short while. He's so smart. Glad I found this group--I've already found some other ideas and seen that I'm not the only one with a cute but nippy baby. What a relief. Thank you. I'll be here a lot, reading, reading, reading. Phee PS Hope I'm doing it right. If not, I do apologize. I'll get the hang of it, I'm sure. :aimeeyork |
Hi Phee, welcome to YT. Thank you for adopting your lil boy. I adopted my 3 y/o 5 months ago. After mine settled in he thought he was going to be "top dog" and started nipping my hands, I would tell him in FIRM VOICE no biting, this happened 3 / 4 times over 2 days, after that instead of nipping at my hands he would get one of his toys and kill it lol. Be firm but gentle. You will find much help on YT. |
Welcome to the board. Congrats on your new little guy and major props for adopting. I looked into adopting myself but my search turned up no Yorkies in my area so I bought my little darling named Darla. Her big brother, Buckwheat, is a German Shepherd and he dotes on her so much. They're both little rascals though. We love our furry kids. We have a three year old son as well. My name is Sarah. I just got Darla about three days ago so I am a noob here as well. Although being a previous Shih Tzu owner does help a bit with being familiar about grooming and the special things small breeds require. |
We're pretty dedicated to the idea of giving a home to fur babies who've found themselves in tough situations. Joffrey is the fourth "pound puppy" we've adopted and it's always a little little tricky at first. But the biting caught me off guard. THe only dog I had from puppy-hood was my Maltese who shared my life for seventeen years. She would roll around and play as though she was going to bite your hand but never actually bit down. So this really surprised me. I'm glad I found this site. Thanks to everyone for a warm welcome. |
Welcome to YT! It will all work out just be consistent. |
