Boarding at the vet works better for us too. I have used a camp Bow Wow type of boarding facility and Macy gets too stressed out being around other dogs all the time. There is so much going on at the vets, my dogs don't get bored and get attention from everyone that goes by their area. I request the big dog runs and they have plenty of room to walk around. My vet does not have someone there 24 hours so I was concerned about something happening at night like fire, tornado or someone just breaking in .....so I asked them......if they have a smoke/fire/security alarm, if they are sprinkled in the boarding area, what they do in case of a tornado at night and no one is at the vet's office. They answered all my questions and didn't make me feel stupid for asking. One more thing, I take the staff a small gift when I pick up my dogs. I try to pick some type of food item everyone can enjoy and you will be amazed how thankful they are. |

I picked Ian up this morning! He was fine, and very happy to see us...what a reunion! I'm so happy that we decided on boarding him with his vet. Of course we called a couple of times to check up on him. :) |
I have used a bonded, insured pet sitter for 13 yrs. She comes 3 x day and walks, feeds, toilets, plays with my dogs. I know she spends more than 30 min with my dogs so I get value for what I pay. She has a full profile on emergency contacts and vet instructions should anything happen (never has). I have peace of mind because my home is not unattended during our vacation and we even have our mail picked up etc. If u weigh the cost, it's about the same. |
I would go the vet route. We travel in a motor home so our Sophie can come with us but we had a pekingese years ago and we would board with the vet. Always came home to a healthy loving pet happy to see us. I would never take my baby to a place that she is left unattended for the entire night with other dogs. Your never know if one of those dogs bite (JMHO). |

Huey just hates being away from us (me, especially). When I got stuck at work for 3 days a couple of months ago (snow), he wouldn't even eat for his daddy unless he put the food in a treat ball. Spoiled... |

I am so very glad that it all worked out well for you and you had a nice trip and your baby was happy and you got to call to check on him. Many, many years ago I boarded a small dog at my vets for a few days and I called them every day and they did not mind. It must be good to be home and be with Ian. |
