Darla's coat I've read the Yorkie coats and sizing sticky on here but I can't figure out what type of coat she has. I'll post a pic of a puppy that looks just like her as the photos I have do not show her coat as well as this picture I found that is of another puppy but is exactly how Darla looks right now. Can you all help me solve this mystery? I really want the typical silky coat. I have seen adult Yorkies with wiry thin coats. I'm not a big fan of that look (personal opinion). Of course I will love my baby if she turned out to have the worst coat in all the world but I'm curious to know what to expect as she grows. Is it possibly too young to tell at this point? Also she hates wearing clothes and my hubby says I'm torturing her which makes me feel like a horrible person but she's my daughter so I want to do her up in ribbons and bows and lace. I have a little boy skin kid and want a little girl so now I have one. Part of the fun is making her prissy in pink, lol. I'm trying to get her used to her collar and clothes at this young age so she doesn't refuse to wear clothes later on. Maybe you all prefer your furbabies naked and I will let her be naked when she's just lounging around but when we go out, I plan to always take her with me wherever I go and I want to dress her up. Is it okay for me to be putting clothes on her now? |
I can't post pictures anymore. Apparently my account is very restricted. So this thread is pointless. |
What device are you using to try to post pictures? Must be a temporary glitch. Are you re-sizing the photos? YT has restriction on file sizes. These threads might help (if not, post in the site help section for more help): http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...-pictures.html http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...orkietalk.html Darla is still very young to determine coat. Puppy coat is usually difficult to work with, more prone to tangling and looking a bit fuzzy. Could be a year before you know what she has, or more. Teddy's coat continue to change in texture through this second year. |
Getting used to clothes and more -- distractions usually help. Going for walks and outings is what made my boys love topknots, harnesses, and clothes. |
1 Attachment(s) I was using an iPad. I'll try it on my iphone now. Thanks. :) |
Looks like a cotton coat to me but I am no expert. Time will tell. |
How old is Darla? If you want her ears to stand up then maybe you should start to trim them now. |
It is very hard to tell at that age. Laddy had a super thick coat as a puppy and is now a silky coat. Kyra had very little hair when we brought her home and has what I think is a modified coat. Tangles some but not like a cotton coat and is super thick. |
It worked, yay!!!! |
You can't tell the kind of coat at that age. I can tell you that two of my puppies had really thin almost balding kind of scalps as puppies and they both turned out to have silky coats as adults. Another dog was more of a fluff ball and she too ended up with a silky coat. So my conclusion is, no one really knows. |
I plan to start ASAP. I have trimmers back where I moved to Colorado from and I'll be moving back there in a week so I'll shave them starting when I move back. |

You have to wait until there adult hair starts growing in. |
Thanks ladies. I guess it's a waiting game. I'm excited to watch her morph into adult hood. However I'm really loving the skunky puppy breath pictures at the moment. :) |
Not sure on the coat but she sure is cute! I think on the dresses, she will get used to them. I love to dress mine up and have a pretty bow. The tshirt dresses seem to be more comfortable in my opinion. |
