Ears? I have two yorkies - bro and sis. They are about 8 months old and my girl's ears haven't popped yet. I didn't want to get their ears clipped but I was just wondering if anyone thinks there's still a chance her ears could pop up? My boy has one ear up and one 1/2 up :D It's pretty cute, but Dixie, the girl has none up at all! :( She's still cute though, of course! |
I didn't know that their ears had to be popped. My pup's ears are always up and I was wondering if he would ever out them down. |
Well the ears can be clipped when they are born (or at a certain age...I don't even know) but anyways, they are usually clipped with the tails are docked or whatever and I didn't want the ears clipped. Chip (my boy)'s ears were down up until about a month ago when one popped up and the other is almost up so I was just wondering if maybe Dixie's would pop as well...I didn't know if that was "rare" after a certain age  |
I'm not sure people have their dog's ears "clipped" --- do they? Aren't we referring more to just having the hair around the upper third of the ears clipped? This just removes some of the weight off the ears and help the ears go up. It worked with my pup. (They may have gone up anyway - we'll never know.) But I removed the hair from the upper third of my pup's ears - and around the edges - and his went up in a couple of days and have stayed up every since. Good luck! Carol Jean |
I was reading a thread on here a few weeks ago that said if you put duct tape on the inside of their ears it will help stand up and is not painfull for the babies. just watch the hair! |
Did you tape them? My Desi's ear didn't go up until about 11 months but I constantly taped them. |
By the looks of the pics they need their hair clipped. A yorkies ears are not literally clipped. You can have a groomer, vet, or you can use a pair of grooming clippers. It is real easy just shave the hair to the form of their ear. some people only trim the tips others do the entire ear until they start standing. Once they stand keep the tips cut to the ^ shape. this will keep them from being weighted down. |
http://members.cox.net/jrogan/ears.html You can try this. I think ears that are down look cute but to get them up and keep them that way the hair has to be trimmed. |
She is getting a bit older, but try shaving the hair off her ears. If you don't have clippers use the sideburn part of your husbands electric shaver. That works well. Then try tapping, here is a great link on doing her ears. http://www.shooterdog.com/alexfaq2.htm#EARS This procedure may take several weeks. Also remember, she is at that age she will be losing her milk teeth. So her ears will drop again. :( That seems to always happen as soon as I get my Puppies ears standing. Don't fret, believe me, her ears will stand. :p |
hey Emily, welcome to YT. i was on myspace and saw ur post in the yorkie lovers group and came here to see if i could find u some info, but ur ahead of the game :] my pups ears have always stood, so im not much help, but i knew people here would know what to say. but i think even if their ears dont stand, it looks super cute :p do u have any pics of them? |
just saw ur babies- they are adorable!!! love them even with their ears down ;] love em! |
Some breeds will have their ears clipped (ie cropped) but a Yorkie doesn't have this done...thank goodness!! We just tape the ears and clip the hair at a young age to help them stand. I hope that helps! |
Up, Down O man they are so cute! I have a question: why is everyone so set on ears up? I REALLY like how they look down. :D JMHO. |
I have six, of my oldest two (mom and dad) Zowie's ears have always stood up and Bronx are down. The puppies Robyn's stood up really young, Teddy and Katrina one and one 1/2 up and Quattro's are down. I love them all. Yorkie's ears are not cropped, but I also heard that if you massage them (and shave them) they will stand better. I do this with Teddy, I'm not sure why I picked him. |

Thanks Amanda. I think they still look like puppies when they are down. :) Baby's ears are up, but I wouldn't mind my next girl to have them down. |
1 Attachment(s) Oh hun...I've got one yorkie around here that has ears like Dumbo! I swear her ears almost drag the floor! She's really sweet just not what I want to breed. Nothing wrong with her personality, or her look for a pet. Check her out! |
I think it's so cute! Thanks for sharing the pic. Is there a "way" to make them stay down? Or did they just happen to be like that? PS. BTW we were born in the same year. :) |
I guess you could always weight them down with "heavy" clips on their hair on the ends of their ears. LOL Or in Ellie Mae's case, you could just have a 1 lb 9 oz yorkie hold on to one ear and a 2 lb cairn terrier hold on to the other ear while you're trying to walk thru the house. LMAO :D |
Thanks for the replies everyone - I kinda forgot about this post, sorry :p I really do like my pup's ear's down but I was wondering if there was a certain age when they usually popped up? I wouldn't mind if they popped but I also wouldn't mind if they stayed down, I was just curious!! I love how my boy has 1 up and 1 down. I think I'm scheduling a hair cut soon, they just had one in December though - it grows so fast!! |
Ellie Mae looks so cute :) |
Rocky has one ear up and one down. At one time they were both up, then one went back down. It is so cute!!!! |
Ears Ella's ears have been up since day one I swear but I saw this website today that might help you.... http://members.cox.net/jrogan/ears.html |
