Help! Is Collar or Harness best?? I don't know what is best for Taffy to wear. A collar or harness. And whether to leave it on all the time? I don't have a fenced in yard and I always take her out on a leash. Sometimes when people come in Taffy sneaks out and doesn't always come back in when told. Then the little stinker wants to play the chase me game :( . I have notice when I leave her harness on all the time her hair on her chest and stomach gets thinner. Plus if I leave her collar on I am afraid she would get a collaspe treakea? She already has cough spells when she gets excited. Like her mother does. :( So can anyone tell me what to do??? Collar or harness on all day? Or all the time? Or only when going outdoors to potty?? Thanks Star , Taffy and Baby |
collar or harness I always leave her collar on with her tags . If she happens to sneak out on you at least she has her tags on so any one who finds can identify and hopefully return her to you. If you are going to take her on leash harness is most certainly a lot better. If she pulls she can not hurt her little neck. I put the harness on along with leaving collar on. One does not effect the other. |
Thanks Carol for answering that makes sense to me. :) The collar and Harness at the same time was another question I had and you answed it for me. Taffy does pull. She is always in a hurryto be somewhere else all the time. :) Thanks again Star, Taffy and Baby |
Definitely use a harness if you are walking your Yorkie, as collars can restrict them and cause collapsed tracheas. I'd recommend using a harness and leash at all times when they go outside just to be safe, but it's not necessary to have one on all the time while indoors. |

I would use a harness for sure whenever you are walking her. It is just much safer and comfortable on the dogs so you are not pulling on their neck. But I would not leave it on all the time. This can break their hair and rub under thier arms. I would also make sure to get a harness that is easy for you to put on and off of her such as a harness vest (like the ones that velcro) or a step in harness. You might want to see if you can baby gate wherever it is that she manages to sneak out of whenever people come in and out. :) |
harnesses all the way   |
I use only a harness on Mac & Mellie when they are going for a walk. When they are in the house they have nothing on. |

Me too - harnesses for walks, naked at home! |
Harness and only when she's outside. |
Rocky has harness (needs new, out going current one) when we go on walks, but nothing in the house. |
when out harness harness harness, then at home nudie |
Joey wears a collar with tags at all times (just in case). Yes, there is a small risk associated with wearing a collar, but I personally consider that risk to be smaller than the risk of getting lost. I add a harness when we are going for walks. I never attach his leash to his collar. |
I use a collar for the tags and take it off if she is home. I use a Halti and custom made harness, when we are outside and training. I use just the harness if I know we are only going in and out of stores. The Halti is a head halter just like a horse halter and it clips to the harness on her chest with a line and D ring. It protects her throat and gives more control of her than a harness does. Joy |
we are harness out, naked in. shelby is microchipped too. if you are concerned about collar choking (not talking about using with a leash) and you want ID on at all times some people use safe release cat collars. |
