Discipline Question For you expert Furbaby Mom's what is the best way to discipline your furbaby for having an accident on the floor while training? The reason I ask is because Daisy is doing extremely well in the potty training department, but just had a small accident on the floor. I picked her up and showed her the spot, said no and took her to the pad. Is this correct? This is my first indoor furbaby so I'm learning to potty train also. She acts scared of me now.. :( |
I understand what you are saying. I've always had big dogs inside. This little guys can be extremely sensitive. I'm trying to regain my little ones love as we speak. Here's a little advise if you catch her in the act say 'no' or Uh-huh something to get her attention of clap. This will startle her into stopping peeing. Then carry her over to her pad or outside and wait til she relieves herself. When she does through a party, praise her, give her a treat. Also there has been a lot of discussion about potty training in the past so for more ideas use the search feature at the top of the page. |

If you catch her in the act of pottying inappropriately, say NO and whisk her outside to finish. If she has an accident that you find soon after, do NOT discipline. Quietly clean it up. It was your fault for not watching her, not her fault. And, she won't understand why you're showing it to her and acting upset AFTER the fact. If you aren't already, to speed things up, I highly recommend giving treats for going where you want her to! |
We do the same thing. If we catch them in the act then we strongly tell them NO and show them exactly where they are to potty, be that outside or on a peepad!! If we find it later we just clean it up as they would not understand what they were gettin in trouble for. We also do lots of praising for going in the right spot, esp. again after they have an accident!! Don't worry you are not doing anything wrong. |
Thanks for your wonderful words for wisdom.. I think I need to go and get some cheerios.. :o) |
