1 Pesky Flea...HELP!! About 2 wks ago while I was giving Ella a belly rub, I ran across a flea!! I freaked out and gave her a bath. After the bath, I tried looking through her coat, but she would not stay still. Her undercoat is silver, so it's pretty easy to spot the flea. So I thought it was gone...wrong!! :eek:This morning while getting ready for work, I noticed Ella biting her hind legs, I picks her up, looked at her leg and found the flea again. So I ran her to the bathtub and quickly soaked her in it, wetting her head first. As I was washing her, I was waiting to see a floating flea...nothing!! I took her out, dried her off, and did a quick run through to see if the flea was still alive, I didn't see anything! So now I'm paranoid and worried about that one flea!! I don't even know how she acquired it...she hasn't gone anywhere on he grass. Anyone know how to make a natural flea repellent/killer? |
It's probably not just one... Fleas can survive baths because they run for the head or any dry spot. Is she on flea preventative? |
if you see one flea there are more. Wash pups bedding, vacuum all carpets, empty vacuum in OUTSIDE TRsh pail NOT IN KITCHEN TRASH. Use flee protection on pup. Yesterday a member replied to a post about flea on pup,she wrote to bathe pup using dawn dish washing soap, wrote it kills fleas and safe for pets. |
Apple Cider Vinegar works too.. Stinks but it works. Luckily, since I moved Charlie hasn't had to get anymore treatments because he hasn't got infested again, yet (knock on wood).. I still haven't decided which route I will go next time for flea preventative. He had a reaction to the Triflexis and Frontline stopped working, so those two are off the list. I guess I'll see what his vet recommends.. Yes I agree with the above post... it there is one. there is more than likely more too. |
Thank you everyone! I called my vet and he suggested Advantix. I really didn't want to use chemicals. I think I'm going to try the Dawn and Apple cider vinegar first. I have hard wood floors, but still vacuuming them and washing all her bedding on sanitize setting on washer. We'll see how it goes! |

Use Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar.. |
Ok maybe it doesn't have to be Bragg's.. Here is an article I found you can read.. Apple Cider Vinegar - A Holistic Remedy for Dogs - Whole Dog Journal Article |
I've heard Braggs is great, one tablespoon a day as many health benefits for people. ;) |

We use Comfortis. My vet recommended it bc a lot of the liquids such as Frontline don't work anymore. I actually split one pill between my two and give a dose about every 1 1/2 months. We have not had any issues as long as they are on it. Uni gets very severe flea allergies so I can't risk her getting bit even by one again. |
I give my a brewers yeast tablet a day. No fleas here and no chemicals :) |
