Oh my Westley does not like the collar at all!!! It's an inflatable soft cushiony one, that still keeps him from being able to lick and bite at his bum, but he is in the bathroom (I have him separated from the other for now) howling at the top of his little Yorkie lungs!! He feels better than he did earlier. When I got home from petsmart, he was excited and running and jumping like his normal self. The spot on his bottom doesn't look as bad either and wasn't oozing as much. I tried to get him to do a warm bottom bath with Epsom salts but he wouldn't sit in the sink, so I just poured it over his bottom repeatedly. He had a fever earlier, but hasn't for the past few hours. I'm still worried about this "open sore" on his bottom where they opened up the abscess to drain it. I hope it heals and doesn't cause any problems for him. Poor little guy. But he is doing better, thank God. |
Glad he's feeling better! Abscesses have to heal from the inside out, or it will abscess again. Did the vet put a drain in the wound to keep it open for a few days? It may not need a drain, just curious. |
I'm not sure if she put a drain in it, but it's definitely open and still draining some blood and pus and goo. |
Aww, poor little guy, it sounds painful:( Glad he's doing better though. |
Poor little one. Per my Vet, I have always done a warm compress on the area as it's best to keep the scab removed so it can drain. With no outside moisture there it can get plugged up again if the blood/puss dries on it. Prayers he feels better fast. |
I did the warm compress this morning. I soaked the compress in warm water with Epsom salts in it to help with healing. It looks so much better today than it did yesterday. It's still draining blood and pus, but he is frisky and playful and rolled over for belly rubs and wanted kisses when I had him on the counter doing the compresses. I have a call into the vet to see about having some pain medicine here for him in case he needs it. Should the swelling in that area go down in a few days? She said they injected gel into the gland. I guess to force the rest of the infected pus and blood out? |
Poor baby. Hope his little behind heals soon. |
Oh bless his little heart. . . I hope it gets better soon. Sending good thoughts and puppy kisses to him |
