Want to breed my little Sebastian
 

I have a 4lb male yorkie that is my heart. I want so much to have him a playmate and I am interested in breeding him so I can pick another male for him to play with. I live in Delaware and would like to find someone that wants to breed a toy female. I just want a puppy, no fees. My Sebastian is AKC registered and is up to date on ALL shots and vet visits. Thanks! Welcome to YT! This is a great place to research all kinds of info regarding your yorkie and find lots of others who are just as crazy about their dogs as you are.

If you check the search and the breeder threads you will find many posts related to your question regarding the pros and cons of breeding.
Breeding your boy just to get another pup isn't a good reason to do it, I suggest you find a good breeder and buy him a playmate. Best wishes.

Yes I do have pictures! I am at work, but as soon as I get home I will post some of him. Wouldn't my vet check him for those things as a "normal" procedure? Sebastian is my first dog. I had wanted one for so many years and finally after 32 yrs, my husband caved in and got me one for Valentines day last year. Sebastian is just a yr old (in November). He is 4 lbs and so active! He has graduated obedience school and was so easy to potty train! I was amazed how fast he learns. I see how he is with my daughters dog (full size yorkie) and that is why I want to get him a playmate. 5 weeks after I got him, he jumped off steps and broke his leg and had to have immediate surgery. Cost me $2400.00. I NOW have pet insurance on him, but he doesn't even have a limp!

no your vet will not routinely check for LP's and LS. Your puppy may check out just fine, yet without knowledge of his pedigree back several generations he may be a carrier of a wide variety of genetic problems. Without doing the proper background youre taking a chance of producing pups with genetic defects.

Also there are very few good breeders that will merely use an unproven stud accepting a puppy back as fee. Stud fees on an unproven stud are very minor at best.

these are good rules to live by -

WHEN SHOULD A MALE BE BRED?

1. When he is superior in conformation, temperament and health to most of the males in his breed. Whether this fact is established by showing him to his championship or by having him evaluated by others knowledgeable in the breed is of no consequence.

2. When he has passed all the health screenings for the bitch mentioned above.

3. When you've decided if you can live with a male who, once he's been used at stud, may suddenly forget his housebreaking lessons and start marking the sofa with urine.

4. When you are knowledgeable enough about pedigrees, conformation, health and temperament to know if the bitch being presented to him is a good match, or have a knowledgeable mentor who does.

5. When you have the fortitude and tact to turn down a bitch if you don't feel it would be a good breeding or if you don't feel she's of breeding quality.

First of all, welcome!

Now I have to agree with the marking issues. Knowing what I know now, I would never breed my male if I wanted to continue to keep him as a pet. From what I understand, the breeders that use their own males, handle them differently. I wasn't aware of this problem until after I bred my male toy poodle many years ago. We too just wanted to get a puppy out of it for a friend of mine. He turned into a marking machine, let me tell you. I didn't even realize that was why until I got on this chat board. Then it all fell into place. I didn't even know anything about belly bands that I could have used on him until I learned it here. I just wouldn't want to have to use belly bands on my Yorkie every day just because he's marking due to the breeding issue. In my opinion, you really might be better off finding another puppy to have as a playmate. Maybe one from the same parents since you're so happy with how this baby has turned out?
