How much should I charge a caregiver? I'm leaving out of town for six days, and my yorkies is staying home alone. I wanted to get a pet sitter, but had no luck in that department. In addition, I refuse to put my baby in a boarding place with other dogs. How much should I pay my leasing office to come once a day just to check on him, change his puppies pads once a day, and give him fresh food & water once a day?:animal-pa:animal36:aimeeyork |

Where are you in Maryland?? I am in the Annapolis area. I used to dogsit ALL the time, and am very experienced. I do have my boy, Jackson though, that would either have to come with me if I stay at someones house, or would obviously be with me if I took the pup home. Just an option. I understand if you're not comfortable w/ it, but you could PM me if you want my info. :) |

I would have someone check on your pup twice a day. |
Once a day is not enough. Please find an alternative. |
I watch the cats next door and check them at least twice a day. I would not leave a dog with less, especially a young one. |

If there is no way you can take your Yorkie, and you were not comfortable with any pet sitters, this sounds like a wonderful solution to your problem. One of my buyers was in the same situation, and she had made arrangements for the leasing office at the condo where she lived, to go in and care for her baby. The person that was in charge of taking care of the pup, apparently "slipped" and told someone what she was doing....the owner returned and her condo had been broken into, ransacked, stolen items, INCLUDING her precious little dog. She came to me to get her new puppy, and I shared some very important steps that may keep her safe. NO one knows when I leave town....my cousin slips over and collects the mail, the paper, and puts garbage cans on the curb on garbage day. All my indoor lights are on timers that come on in varied sequence....outside lights are all dusk to dawn. I cautioned her to keep her drapes closed so pup can not sit in the window, where passer-bys can see the pup. Fortunately, I no longer have to go out of town, and she now takes her baby with her when she goes anyplace. I would JUMP on Bristers kind offer.... |

What a nice offer... I'd take her up on it if she is within range of you. ;):) |
We have a couple different companies that offer to come to the house and check on your pets. They charge $16/day for 1 visit, $28/day for 2 visits and $40/day for 3 visits. They stay 30 minutes, will walk the dog(s) if you want, and also bring in mail/newspaper and water plants. They are bonded and insured. We also have some individuals who offer the same thing at $10 per visit, but they are not bonded or insured. Best of luck in coming up with a good plan. |
Thank you for your advice. I will make sure they check on him 3 times a day. I'm trying to find a dog walker too. Wish me luck. |
Thank you very much. The leasing office is going to take care of him for me. I'm trying to find a reliable dog walker too. Wish me luck. |
Thank you for your advice. I know I won't have that problem. I've been here for three years now, so I'm good to go. |
I definitely would not advise leaving him for that long and only have people checking on him. Is there anyone that could take him with them at night? |

Brit if you were closer to me, I'd jump at the chance to have you house/dog sit and walk. Jackson and Razzle would get along famously too:) |
