Puppy Shots? How old was your puppies first set of shots? I just called to schedule shots for Belle's babies, they are 6 weeks today, and the vet said they don't give them until 8 weeks. When I was a vet tech we gave them shots at 6 weeks. |
My puppy was 8 weeks old when I got him, and he had already had his first shots. He went to the vet for a well-puppy checkup - and I have followed their schedule for two additional sets of shots. He's four months old now and his last (3rd) shots are tomorrow. Carol Jean |
Rocky got his at 6 weeks, 8 weeks, 12 weeks, and his last round was at 16 weeks. |
Both of our girls got their first set with their breeders at 8 weeks...and then it was 12 and 16 weeks after that!! |
some say 6 some say 8 I start mine at 8 weeks (if the weights are good) then every three to four weeks there after for a total of three. If the puppy is slight in weight I will only give 1/2 shots every three weeks. Hope this helps Kimberly |
Puppy shots My puppies aren't even weaned at 6 weeks, nor are they usually weaned at 8 weeks. I start feeding them somewhere around 4 weeks but always let the Moms do the weaning. When she doesn't want to go in with them anymore, I don't put her in. Pups aren't ready for their first vaccinations until after weaning. I always wait until they are about 10 weeks for their first vaccinations then 4 weeks later for the next then 4 weeks for the last in the series. Lorraine Loriben Yorkies |
I'd wait till 8 weeks but it really depends on their weights. |
anyone have a list of shots that are usually given puppies? i know many do 4 rounds but how many shots are given at each visit and which ones? |
Thanks everyone for thier imput. When I worked at the vets we gave them at 6weeks. My first litter had theirs at 6 weeks. I don't care to wait until they are 8weeks, I am in no hurry. They are still nursing and Belle still sleeps with them at night. They eat puppy mush now, but hopefully over the next week they will be able to crunch their food. I know that as long as they are nursing they are still getting the protection they need, but as they stop that protection starts to wain then after a few weeks it is almost null invoid. I just want the healthiest and happiest babies I can get. |
