Cats! Ok first of all, I'm already really scared of cats. Lately theres been two cats in the backyard, they sit on the fence and they don't like Joel, at all. I took him out this morning and I saw something moving on the other side of the fence and then it was climbing over! The cat was going for Joel, and Joels not the brightest little thing so he's just standing there waiting for the cat to get him. I had to run across the yard barefoot in the snow before the cat could get to Joel and the cat was hissing a lot. I was trying to shew the cat which I was so scared about. Our first Akita was attacked by a cat and almost died, he was in the hospital for days, so I can't imagine what would happen to Joel. Now I can't even take him in the backyard:( |

I'm just curious... Why are you scared of cats? It's weird the cat would attack... All the cats I've come across (both domesticated and feral) usually either moves away or stare from their spot. I wonder if they marked that spot and Joel just happened to be in the vicinity. Maybe that's why they attacked. Watch few eps of "my cat from hell" and cats seem to be very territorial... |
Ok I have cats both domestic and feral. Usually a cat will attack only when they feel threatened. Best way to get rid of the cats it first to make sure there is nothing for them to eat. Then easiest way to shoo them is to either squirt them with water from a spray bottle or the hose. If they come always from one side they have the thing that attaches to a hose that has a sensor. When they hit the sensor they are hit with water. Also you need to talk to your shelter. Some places are full and won't take them. Also I know my animal control told me when we had a sick cat in the yard they could not do anything. If it was a dog they would but not a cat. Good luck |
I have 5 cats and 2 yorkies. Very few cats would try to attack a dog most would be of the dog or be indifferent to the dog |

I did cat sit for my moms friends cats for a whole week and did good trying not to be scared. I'm mostly just really creeped out from their claws lol. I still think they're cute though:p I'm also worried of a cat getting Joel now. |
There's 3 backyards connected to ours, so I don't really know where they're coming from or if there's food. Joel did bark at them in the beginning but he doesn't now, he just looks at them. I'm thinking they're just being territorial, it's only been about a week and before that I've never seen any cats around here. |
We have several cats that run loose in our neighborhood. UGH!!! My yorkies really get worked up when they come around and they are very bold cats. I really think there should be ordinances in place for cats just like for dogs. I hate it when other peoples animals get in my yard because the owner doesn't want to accept responsibility for their pets. A scratch from a cat can become very nasty/infected. Also they poop in the flower beds which is rather disgusting to have to clean up. As you can see, cats running loose, is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. I sure hope the cat/cats don't bite/scratch Joel or you. |
My next door neighbor is a cat hoarder and at any given time, there are 8-10 feral cats wandering about our street, not to mention the appearance of kittens on a regular basis. My hubby worked with our local animal control office, renting a trap from them (more of a deposit. He got his $ back when he returned the trap) We put the trap (clearly marked "CATOOSA COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER" ) in our yard, and he dropped off a cat at the shelter every morning for 2 weeks. One night the neighbor came into our yard after dark and liberated one that he caught, but we got rid of about 10 and it didn't make a dent in the population. Needless to say, Huey never never never goes outside off leash, other than the deck, and even then I have to check the deck for cats first. I grew up with cats and I have always enjoyed cats, but 60+ feral cats living in the garage (doors replaced with chicken wire) a hut built in their backyard & roaming free is just way too much for me. My hubby has never liked cats, also says he is "afraid" of them(...nice neighborhood...neighbors have connections despite multiple reportings by multiple people for YEARS!) You have my sympathies. A cat could tear a yorkie up! Most of the ones next door are bigger than Huey, not to mention the cat hoarder herself has it out for us for trapping and removing them and has screamed accross the fence that "if that little dog ever gets out, you will never see him again!!! (Neighbors for 18 years...hahaha) :arrr: |
Didn't realize cats could be so dangerous... Always thought cats would take off if stranger (human or animal) comes near. |
