Ella ate a children's gummy vitamin!!! Freaking out!! Hi everyone, I really need some advice right now. I was getting my little one her daily gummy vitamin, one fell on the floor and Ella swooped it up and ate it! I tried opening her mouth to retrieve it, but she had already swallowed it. I'm so worried and scared it will have ill effects on her. Has anyone had this experience and know what I should do? Thank you! |
Call the ER vet now, some vitamin ODs can be serious. |
Do the vitamins have xyitol or iron in them? If so you really need to go to the ER vet now, those are very dangerous. |
If they have xylitol that is an absolute must-visit to the ER, as xylitol is EXTREMELY bad for a pup's liver. And yeah, an iron overdose is not a good thing either. |
I just saw iron is toxic to dogs in dosages of 20 milligram per kilogram of the dog's weight (1kg = 2.2 pounds). Crap, I closed the page down that said so. I think it was petmd. |

I would contact the vet with the bottle in hand. Let them know exactly what is in it. |
Has this been resolved? How is the pup doing? What did the vet say? |
Hi all, sorry I'm just getting back to you all. I took her to the ER, the gummies did not have xylitol or iron in it. Which I thought was odd that a children's vitamin doesn't have iron, but good in my situation. They looked at the bottle, monitored her for an a couple of hours. She doing well, no reactions. Just making sure she eats and drinks as normal. Thank you all for your help and concerns. What a mess I was! |

Great news! These pups can really scare us. |
I'm glad you took her to the vet and she's ok. A lot of vitamins don't contain iron because the only people who usually need it are young women and ODing on it can be deadly. |

Glad to hear your sweet Ella is ok! I would've absolutely freaked out, too. If anything positive came from this is it has educated many of us (I'm sure) about the dangers of dogs ingesting iron and xylitol. I wasn't aware, so thank you! |
I'm so glad all turned out well for you and your baby. Sorry you had such a scare! |
