Tangled mess :( how do you keep your dogs long hair from getting tangled? I purchased some detangler spray and it worked ok. boy what a job. she loves to roll around and it causes her hair to just tangle into a big knot. and knot's. I purchased the brush that the pet shop and the person who grooms her sugesseted but it pulled way to much so I got another one from the dollar store and it works much better she likes it too. some help would be nice. thanks |
I brush Kyra 3 or 4 times a day and I use I <3 my Pet Head conditioner on her before I brush. It really seems to help and it is a leave in. I also trim under her little armpits because that is usually the worst spot for her. |
I use detangling products right before a bath, but I have found the best way to avoid tangles on my boys is to keep their coats as clean as possible. That means using less hair product too. We use brushes, but I finish with a small comb to make sure there aren't any little hidden tangles. Small tangles lead to larger ones. Some dog coats are prone to tangling more. Does she have a silk, cotton, or combination coat? Cotton and combination coats are prone to tangling. |
I use the Isle of Dog No. 63 Detangling spray on Ricky. It's the best stuff ever!! Before that, I'd bought a cheap detangling spray that did more damage than good. I have to brush Ricky all of the time . He could use it 3-4 times a day, but he usually only gets it once a day. His hair gets tangled all of the time. He gets bathed once a week, but his coat could probably stand to be washed twice a week. |
I use good products and wash him a week to 10 days. I leave the conditioner for a couple mins. I brush him everyday. Twice a day. What kind of coat does she have? |
I brush and comb Piccolo twice a day and she gets a bath once a week. I find if I don't stay up with it, I will be sorry and she will be a tangled mess. |
This week I had finally had it with the tangles. I cut off her saddle. What a terrible job I did but she looks so cute. I left her face, legs and tail long. She looks adorable to me. I now have to learn how to cut properly as I will not take her to a groomer. Brushing 3/4 times per day was not in the cards for us. |

thank you everyone for your help I am so thankful and I am going to use some of these tips . |
What I found that helps a GREAT deal is Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum (for people). After I bath The Crew, I squirt some in my hands, rub them together and rub it all over them. Then comb and dry them. Ally has a silky coat and looks a little oily until the next day. Oreo has a mixture and Tia is a cotton coat. It's the best thing I've found. Ally and Oreo have long hair and are super silky and shinny the next day. Tangles comb out like nothing. I think it's similar to Pet Silk for dogs. |
Honestly what seems to help the most is a detangler I got from Petsmart. Its by Martha Stewart in a baby blue print bottle. It smells like cookies. I use that and it works well. I always apply coconut oil as well. Thats what works the wonders the most. I try to keep his outside time to minimum when he is by his self. As Mickey like many others likes to roll around in grass leaves n debris. Daily combing. For maintaining helps tremendously. With this method I tend to spend about 5 to 10 min. detangling per day. Its not a lot truly. |
Tangled Mess :( I'm still not sure if I'm doing this right (replying?) UGH ! Have you tried a rotating comb ? I'm a Groomer and these combs work wonders for tangles and matted coat. [Geez, I've never had so much trouble trying to figure out how to navigate a site !!!] |
