Lexie doesn't like to chew!? Lexie is 6 months old now, and her adult teeth are coming in, but she is not losing her baby teeth yet. She doesn't seem to like to chew! She doesn't bite at fingers (thankful for this), but she also doesn't like to chew on anything else good or bad for her. Her baby teeth are loose, but they haven't started coming out on their own yet. She's lost a couple into my hand when I've been brushing her teeth. I am afraid to give her Greenies or Nylabones to chew, but I don't know what else to do to get her baby teeth out. She looks like a little shark with two rows of teeth. I don't want her to have to have them extracted. She's only 2.5 lbs, and I didn't like her getting anesthesia for her spay. Any suggestions on what to give her to chew? She has rope toys, plush toys, and some Kong puppy rubber items that she loves to play with but doesn't actually CHEW. She eats well, Blue Buffalo small breed puppy kibble and Blue hard and soft treats. Thanks! |
I would recommend you keep trying different types of chew treats as those are the ones that dogs will really chew hard on. I use CET Chews (get at Amazon) and raw bones (bison rib bones), Honest Kitchen Beams, and a few misc chews for my kiddos. Otherwise, she'll need them extracted when you get her spayed. |
Thanks for the reply! Is there a specific type of CET chew I should get? As I said above, she's already spayed. I really don't want to have her put to sleep a second time. The vet said her baby teeth weren't ready to come out when she was spayed. |
My girl really loves to chew bully sticks, smoked lamb bones, lamb ears, pig ears (I limit those due to the high fat content, she is skinny but I don't want pancreatitis!) we have also been into these whimzee (used to be paragon) treats that are potatoes and vegetables shaped into alligators, hedgehogs and toothbrushes from Holland. Good luck! ps - she doesn't like most packaged treats, she likes frozen vegetables and dehydrated fish but even turns her nose up at free dried chicken bits so the fact that she is interested in these chews is a feat :) |

Yeah it would be good to find something she'll chew, we had a yorkie who didn't like chews or even hard treats and his teeth were horrible. Chewing might not get all the baby teeth out, Lola chews a lot and plays tug of war and she needs at least 2 baby teeth pulled. She loves the whimzees alligators, I buy the bigger size and she did fine with them at 4lbs. Don't buy the textured stick ones, big pieces break off those. I also braided and knotted some fleece strips, she loves to chew on it and play tug of war. |
