Playing aggressively Sadie has taken to trying to get really aggressive while playing with me. She will sound like she's going to tear my head off. As soon as my husband touches her she calms down and stops all the growling. She does this a lot at bed time. After she's done she curls in behind my legs and goes to sleep. I don't think she intends to hurt me but I don't know if I should be concerned about the aggressive behavior. |
Maybe try to calm her down by saying 'Easy'. I think it's like when they first learn how to bark and growl. they can go over the top with it. Try directing her aggression to a toy. Two of mine get really wound up when I put my hand under the blankets and move it around. I try to make them be a bit more gentle, or I stop playing with them. |

If she is up on the bed when she does this, say No, and set her down on the floor on her own bed. Priviledges should be earned, and bad or unwanted behaviour not rewarded. Dogs large or small should never seriously growl at their owner(s), and family. You could also use time-outs - ie crate time when she transgresses. |
Be careful too, because you may be encouraging a bad behavior. My Tink gets a bit wild when on the bed, and gets more intense with that kind of play. She used to bite when I first adopted her at 2.5 years old, so I have to limit anything that makes her excitement level go up too high. But that another story. But now she thinks it's okay to chew on blankets and towels, and she's always stealing my dish towels out of the kitchen to chew on. And I have to be careful after a bath that she doesn't start to play bite the towel I'm using to dry her with. |
