Almost a Yorkie 1 Attachment(s) We have a rescue, not really sure of parentage. He is three, sweet as can be, loves his mom, very social at the dog parks, we call him "the Mayor". We are working on a few bad habits, barking at any noise outside the house. He loves his mom more than anything and tolerates his sister, another rescue. They play hard sometimes but rarely get serious. I know he is not a purebred, don't really want to spend the $70 to find out what he is. He is about 13 lbs. I would like some recommendations on cutting his hair. The warm season is coming here in Florida and we want to get him comfortable. He has Yorkie hair on his face and legs, his body has fur that sheds. His mom trims his facial hair but not sure how much would be appropriate. Any suggestions much appreciated. |
Hi there!! He is a cutie. This site has some different styles: Yorkie Hairstyles and Hair Cuts - Pictures I have also been using Pinterest to find different yorkie "hairstyles", that way I can print out what I like and take it to the groomer. |
Thanks! I will show these to my wife. |
Hi and Welcome to YT! IDK, he looks like a Yorkie to me... some Yorkies are big... one of mine is 15 pounds! How long have you had him? If not long, his hair may be shedding from neglect... I get a fair amount of hair in the brush on mine too. |
We have had him for two years. The hair on his body is short and coarse and sheds, on his face and legs its fine and soft and does not shed. The facial hair grows longer all the time, body hair stays about an inch and a half. We think maybe he is half chihuahua, because of the short hair. My wife trims his "beard" and around his eyes. He is a personality plus dog. |
I have a cotton coated yorkie pup that is almost 10 months, and he loses hair in the brush. There are different coated yorkies, there is silky, cotton and wire haired, I think the cotton in my experience with Gizmo does come out some as opposed to the silky that loses very little. I think it's just the texture. I had a DNA test done on Gizmo, and he's 100% yorkie it still loses some hair when brushed. He was also very malnourished when I rescued him though, so don't know if the shedding of The hair is still a lingering affect, or if cotton coated yorkies just lose a bit more hair then the silky coated. Also the cotton coated yorkies are much harder to grow a long coat. |
Looks like a yorkie to me too. But it doesn't matter - sounds like you love him. |
