Virgin territory here..... :) Hello everyone, my name is Shaun and I am new to this forum & trying to maneuver the site. I am very interested in bringing a yorkie into our home as I have loved/longed for one for years! I wanted to be a responsible parent & research this beautiful breed to not only familiarize myself but also to be informed/educated so that I won't disappoint my baby in the proper care he/she will need. I've bought a few books on the breed that have sooooo much info ( a bit overwhelming), & to be honest, I'm still a little nervous. Is this normal & how do I know when I will be 100% ready? Thank you for any/all feedback |
Hi and Welcome to YT! You'll probably never really feel ready! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. I believe it is normal to be nervous because you adding to your family, and it is a big commitment to bring a pup into your life. If you are lucky, it will be a 15 to 20 year commitment. I wasn't nervous until I brought my first puppy home and realized he was like having a newborn human baby -- a highly mobile one. The first year was challenging, but very rewarding. The love and fun of a Yorkie are immeasurable and priceless. Best wishes! |
Haha! Each time I brought one home I thought 'OMG, What have I got myself into this time!' But it all works out, eventually. |
You will know you are ready when you accept that unexpected changes to your life and home may happen at any moment to meet the needs of your new baby--and that it will be worth every sacrifice. The whole climate and culture of your household will be affected by this new, tiny member of the family who will accidentally create chaos at times but you'll find yourself wondering what were you doing before you had your Yorkie. Big commitment, big rewards, tiny package. :) |
so glad that you are researching prior to getting. be prepared to have your heart stolen and like lay's potato chips you cant stop at one! hehe. at least I couldn't. I was checking out some books on amazon yesterday. they have yorkies for dummies and then a bunch of other books will come up that focus on yorkies. :) |
Hello :wavey: and welcome to YT. Check out my puppy starter kit blog http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/blo...arter-kit.html |
I think that if you have love in your heart and a desire to be a responsible pet owner then you are ready. Since yorkies have so many health issues, I would encourage you to think about how you might pay for some things should they come up. We have many threads here about costs of things and insurance for pets. Yorkies can be fragile and when they need medical help, it is often costly. Other than that, they are the best breed in the whole world. I'll never live without a yorkie. |

Welcome! This breed is the best! Just know getting in that it is a big responsibility and long term commitment. If you feel ready to have a fur baby, yes they are like real babies especially in the beginning and with potty training, start researching breeders that alone will take some time. |
