Hello to All

Just found this web site.
We own a 15 month old Yorkie.....
Once a while he's shaking, but after few hours stop.
Today, he's not himself. He's tired, quiet, sleeping all day...and shaking !!!

Any tips....?

Hi and welcome to yorkie talk :-) is your pup eating and drinking well? Are his gums nice and pink? Does he act lethargic ? If any of these things are off, I would have his blood sugar checked as he could be hypoglycemic. My pup has been through hypoglycemia but it was much worse, it was when I rescued him from a byb and he was in a coma. Not sure of other things that could be wrong as my Gizmo is only 9 months old. I would take him to a vet to get a check p and full blood panel just to be safe.

Hopefully someone who knows more will pipe in here with more info :-)

Hi and Welcome to Yorkie Talk.

There are many things that may cause shaking, he may be cold, or may be in some kind of pain or distress due to tummy, liver or kidney problems, or a number of other things.

It would be best to take him to a vet for a check up. That is the only way to find out for sure and start treatment if he has some problems.

Hello and welcome. I notice that you are from NJ. It has been pretty cold up north. Could he be cold? Yorkies do not have an undercoat like most dogs have and they do tend to get cold easily. Do you have a fleece or flannel shirt you can put on him to help him keep warm? My girl usually wears something during the colder months. Our floors tend to get cold and these little ones are right down close to those cold floors.

Is he afraid of something. Some little dogs see life from a tiny perspective. They scare very easily. Loud noise or fast movements can make them shake if they are the nervous sort.

Shaking can also be a neurological problem. If warming the little guy up and keeping him feeling safe and protected doesn't help with the shaking you might want to have him checked out by your vet. It is not normal and it sounds like the poor guy is suffering.

Definitely warm him up. Wrap him in a blanket and hold him close until he stops shaking. I also have a microwaveable heating pad that stays warm for the entire night that I use if we go north, or have a cool spell. And Bear also has a favorite sweater for cool weather.
