what are the after affects of spaying Maggie was spayed four weeks ago and she still has a small scab on the lower part of the incision... is this normal...has anyone else experienced this with their baby...and is it safe to give her a bath... I'm not sure what to do.. any advice.. |
Did she have stitches and has the vet removed them? What did the vet tell you about giving her a bath. As for the scab, is it red, inflamed or infected looking? It's normally after stitches are removed or if the used skin glue about 2 weeks. A small scab would not be an issue as long as it looks clean. |
they used internal stitches. they told me the stitches dissolve on there own. and I wouldn't have to come back to the office.... and its not red at all.. she has never even licked down there once... that was four weeks ago.. so im wondering if I should call the vet tomorrow.. or can I bathe her already |
You might want to check with them. I would not bathe her until it was all healed. |

Kyra had a small scab for the first 3 weeks. It eventually fell off. The vet said it was fine to go ahead and bathe her, but if you are concerned I would check with the vet who did the spay. |
Maybe call your vet's office and ask about it. It doesn't sound like anything very unusual but your vet should be notified about it anyway. |
My baby is going to be spayed this Thursday morning and I'm so nervous!!!! |
I would do a quick trip to the vet just to be safe. I was told by my vet on my last spay that if the stitches are not fully dissolved within a month to go back. I would want to know what is under that scab. |
I worked at a vet's clinic for years I worked in the kennels and assisted the vets. At 4 weeks it should be safe to bathe her. I bet when you o bathe her the scrab will fall off. Like others, if you are are worried call your vet clinic. |
