Extremely dangerous product!! As it gets closer to spring and warm weather I was looking into some flea and tick prevention for Guido. I was going to order Bayer K9 Advantix II for him as it specifies for dogs 0-11 lbs. (Guido is 3.5lbs). I did some research and read reviews and came across multiple horror stories of paralysis, seizures, vomiting blood, screaming, paranoia, lethargy, loss of appetite for days, and in some cases, death as a result of this product. I am so happy that I read these reviews before ordering it. How could Bayer continue to produce such a disgusting product? Beware!!! Do not use this on your babies!! I have used Frontline Plus in the past and I never noticed any side effects like that. What do you use? Does anyone know of any all natural flea and tick prevention products? |
I have used k9 Advantix is the past and I never had any trouble with it. However, I split one tube between my girls so they only get half each. I switched to a product my vet carries because I can get it locally. It is Vectra 3d. I still only use half a tube and I haven't had any problems with it either. |
All of the flea and tick preventatives have potential side effects. All medications do too. If you Google Frontline, you will find the same ones. There have been members here whose dogs have reacted to it, but most do not. I use Frontline, but tried Advantage once. Teddy had a bad reaction to it. Talk to your vet about which one is best for your small pup. |
My vet told me to break open a vitamin e capsule and put some on first then the flea and tick. It is less irritating to the skin. Had no side effects. More concerned about ticks at the lake. |

Guido is due for a check up anyway. I'll ask them to see what they reccomend. I just got scared when I saw a bunch of consumer reports about the horrie side effects their dogs had as a result of the medication. I was wondering of anyone had experienced anything like that with their yorkies. As tiny as they are, that stuff makes me nervous. |

Back in June I had a horrible experience using this product. I had a three pound little yorkie girl who was in very good health. We took her and our little male in to the vet for check up.Both are 12yrs old and we were given this product to use. With much apprehension I preceded to use this product. I hadn't used any such product before. But considering the fleas and discomfort I was trying to help my babies. Well after baths I began deviding one vile between two babies. Because of their tiny size. Well this was on Monday by Thurs night my little girl started with diarrhea. Not unusual at times in twelve yrs we did have this. But the next morn was a night mare. She was shaking and loosing her balance totally off. Scared us so bad called the vet immediately.went in they did blood work everything they couldn't findi what was happening. Everything went so fast she began seizures and the vet did everything. But she continued down so fast. She began seizing so much. I was in shock how fast we were loosing the battle for her.By Sat Morn we had to let her go. To this day I felt it was all about what we had used on her. She was so full of life would go out on the screen porch leaping like mighty dog. Then to see this happen almost overnight was unbelievable. Was it the flea med would we never know. I was traumatized She was our baby. So I want use any such thing again. We had a routine that worked and should have not changed. |
I started using revolution last summer and it works way better than advantage or frontline, and its the one my vet also recommends. Out of my 3 cats and Gizmo I have never had a bad reaction with the revolution. Advantage and frontline seem to not work at all as it seems the fleas here in SoCal have become immune to it. I would ask your vet about revolution. It is rx only so your vet should either be able to write you an rx for it or sell it to you directly. |
when our papillon came to us with fleas (and tapeworms) we went to the vet and she recommended Revolution. We used it on the papillon (9.5 lbs) and yorkie (4 lbs) with good results |
stay away from hartz and biospot, accitvyl, spelling is wrong |
Never had a problem with K9 Advantix or Frontline (though FL doesn't seem to work very well for us anymore). |
dog I hate using any of these poisons on my dogs. I did a lot of research, got really scared but finally ordered some revolution. Took the boys to the vet, got their tests, and used the rev. and had no problems. I always pray before I use this and I feel so bad for dogs that get reactions and for the ones who pass away from stuff. Be really careful and search before you put anything on. Especially the little ones, they are so fragile. I hate to hear of any precious dog harmed by the flea, tick stuff. If there is any natural stuff that works I would love to use that instead of these poisons. |

I am so sorry. That's horrible. Poor little thing. I've seem a lot of similar situations reading though feedback from people that have used it. I strongly believe they should recall it and formulate a safe product for pets. I would gladly pay the extra money knowing that it wasn't going to poison my baby. If we can land on Mars, we should be able to prevent fleas without risking the lives if our dogs. |
Everything has horror stories and bad reviews. Advantix is the only thing I have found that works here and I have used it for a couple years with no problems. |
Last year I started on Revolution but I switched to Sentinel in the summer and got fleas. Added Frontline to the mix to combat the fleas and it wasn't nearly as effective. First I tried splitting the Frontline between the boys since they already were on Sentinel. That didn't work well, so i gave them each a full dose...and it still didn't work well. This year, I think I will be sticking to the Revolution. My mom uses the Advantix II on her boys and has had no issues on them. |
