All new and exciting! Hello all! I'm so pleased that such a forum exists as I will be getting my little yorkie on Monday and have lots to learn. She will be 12 weeks old when I get her from the breeder. This breeder typically gives her puppies up at 8 weeks but due to a vacation she agreed to keep 'Gracie' for me till now. Having said that though she has said quite a few times that she is concerned that it will be harder on her, she will whine lots, etc etc. I have read lots that 12 weeks is a good age so am not too concerned. Thoughts??? Thanks in advance! Darlene |
Congrats! And Welcome to the best message board on the internet. :D Can't wait to see pic's of your little girl. Enjoy your time with her while she's young, they grow up so fast. |
Welcome!!! The only thing I'm concerned about is that this breeder doesn't know the 12 week rule and how it affects puppies developmentally in a positive way. If it helps you any, it really doesn't matter how old they are when they go home. Attachment is bound to happen! I got mine at 12 months. We're attached at the hip him and I. ;) |
For tiny dogs - it's better to keep them until 12 weeks actually. Don't know why your breeder thought it'd be better at 8 weeks - that's too young according to most reputable, long-standing breeders for yorkies. Also, it's better for their socialization/learning that they stay w/ their Mom/litter until 12 weeks, as I understand it. Can't wait to see your kiddo - you must post piccies! Congrats and WELCOME to YT! |
Oh, how exciting! 12 weeks is a great window during Gracie's development for her to transition to her forever family. Earlier, she'd have missed out on some important socialization from her canine mommy. I've been so fortunate to have been on YorkieTalk learning from everyone's experiences and input--there is truly a wealth of info available here that will benefit your baby and you, and lots of wonderful people with adorable pups! In addition to the Library info (the Stickies), the different subforums, the pictures and videos, take advantage of anecdotal information in past threads. If I have trouble with the search function to look things up here (and I know topics have been covered in the past), when I have a question about one of my Yorkies, I do a Google search with keywords and include "Yorkietalk" in the search criteria. Usually, a whole list of threads will turn up to shed light on a subject. I hope that all goes well with you and your new little one--can't wait to see a pic! :welcome4::goodluck: |
Congratulations and welcome to you and Gracie. |
