my dog ate raw meat? should I be worried she ate a little bit of raw pork I didn't see she had taken it down and ate not a lot but a little she seemed to love it but idk if its ok for her she is 6-7 pounds? thanks:confused::confused::rolleyes: |
She should be fine. Some of us feed our dogs raw meat on purpose and they do great. So I wouldn't worry too much. The concern would be if she ate a huge chunk of pure fat, then you might worry a bit about pancreatitis. |

Mine only eat raw meat and one is pork. Nothing will happen all good. Except they might ask for more... |
My dog eats raw meat everyday without a problem. They didn't use to have people to cook for them you know. I would be careful about pork though. I never feed it to my dog, cooked or raw. |
I think that one of the concerns with pork is the slight chance of trichinosis. Trichinosis is a parasitic disease carried by a roundworm that can be found in raw or undercooked pork & wild game. However, only a handful of cases are reported each year in the US. It's more common in developing countries. People who feed their dogs raw pork (or any type of raw meat) typically freeze the meat for at least 2-3 weeks to eliminate anything that could cause illness. |
Seems like I read a post on here not very far back about someones baby getting a little piece of porkand it made their do deathly ill....guess it deponds on the dog...pork is very fatty, which could easily lead to gastroenteritis or pancreatitis....I had a cousin feed one of my girls ham on Thanksgiving one year....she got quite a bit before I realized what this nut was handing my baby....it didnt do her any harm. |
I also think it depends on the health of your dog and what parts of pork you feed. I have to say it's one of my boys favourite. They go mental when I bring out a slab or pork brisket or some pork ribs. Also I'm feeding organically raised free range pork. Dogs do need some fat in their diet but I do trim anything I view as excessive. Pork is also a much less expensive red meat. Anything from the shops is likely enhanced which I am sure to avoid. The best thing about a rib bone is it's the perfect size and softness for chewing and knawing once all the meat is gone. My butcher now asks when I buy them if it's for me or the dogs. |
