I hope that I am posting correctly...I have a question that I hope someone can help me with. I used the banding method to dock my yorkies tail. it fell off today but Iit looks nothing like what the video shoed me. Instead of the tail being closed..it is an open circle. It was fine a few days ago and looked as if it would fall off anyday but in a closed manner. What do I do..I touched the tail thats when it fell off but it looks infected. I was told not to use peroxide. I went to the store and bought a wound antiseptic/cleaner. Will it close up? The other puppys tail hasnt falling off yet but it should be anyday now. I went ahead and sprayed it with antiseptic because it looked a little scabby

Yikes! This sounds like something more appropriate for the breeder's forum. At the very least, have a vet look at the tail you think is infected.

Was the band sterile? I think they're going to need a stitch or two... and some antibiotics from your vet.

I would run to the vet. Do not mess with stuff that could cause a huge problem in a precious Yorkie.

I'm not sure why there is not more concern here. Go to the vet immediately. Banding is archaic and inappropriate.

I would get to the vet ASAP, PLEASE. This is basically an amputation of a BODY PART, and it should not be taken lightly (nor should you have done docking without training by another breeder; youtube isn't training). An infection could spread FAST in a puppy and kill. PLEASE get to the vet!!!

I was wondering about how humane it is. That's why I recommended posting in the breeder's forum, where more experienced people will see it and comment.

Farmers used to castrate farm animals this way, until they came up with a new way... called 'surgery'. People think they'll save money, but like with these pups, if they don't see a vet soon, the vet will have to refresh the edges of the skin by surgically removing the dried, damaged skin (that will not heal together) and may have to shorten the tails even more if there's not enough skin to cover the tip. I don't think it hurts too much, till it goes bad.

ETA: Breeders do it right!

Wow I don't know any breeders that dock tails this way. I would definitely be concerned about infection....not a good thing in such young babies. I hope you've been to the vet

WOW, I don't know of many breeders that use this method. I would certainly get this baby to the Vet and have it checked out. I pray that no infection set's in that could be bad.

When my puppies were born I took them to the vet on their 5th day and had their tails docked professionally and dew claws removed. I was not willing to put the puppies at risk for an infection or god forbid anything else that could happen. I knew and was prepared for the birthing ( one puppy even got stuck coming out and stopped breathing, but now he is the biggest baby of the litter and living super healthy) I was ready for EVERYTHING that came to puppies, but I knew better then to take it into my own hands for docking tails. I hope you took the babies to the vet immediately.
