Or maybe you're getting it the way you give it.

It's a two way street.

They just aren't trained the same. Oncologists make it their business to not only get their md, but to study further in a specialized field. The same with obstetrics. Yes, my gp dr had to deliver a baby or 2, but he's not specialized in delivering babies, therefore i take that "illness" to a specialist. If for some reason, while seeing my oncologist, they found something that was outside their specialty, like hematology for instance, they wouldn't try to treat me themselves, they would send me to a hematologist- a specialist for what i needed.

Your vet is a general practitioner. He/she is qualified to give vaccines and treat some stuff, but not specialized diseases. There are times when you need to stop talking and start listening, and this is one of those times.

You dog needs specialized care, not vet care. Do the right thing by him and take him some where else. And honestly, your vet should have already referred you to someone else because your dog isn't getting better and you still don't have answers.

You say how much you care about cody and how much you want to save him, yet you continue taking him to the same vet. That would be the equivalent of me taking my diabetic child to the dentist for treatments..... Stupid and it's gambling with the life of the thing you claim to care about.

P.s. If your vet was the best, cody would be cured.

P.p.s the reason you seem to be making enemies is the way you talk to people.

thank you for this info

also, your vet was a student once. It's how they learn. They get their book work done, then move onto the practical theory part, working hand in hand with a vet, who is teaching them as they work.

Those students aren't making decisions without the approval of a teacher. They're not going to do anything that their teacher hasn't heard their treatment plan, asked why that plan, and approved of it.

And you seriously need to learn to post and quote. Your posts are completely jumbled and make no sense.

You've contradicted yourself many times, as others have pointed out.

Up until this past hour you didn't post what Cody had been given, o a few vials at this vist, something at that vist, I threw them out.
I'd quote you directly but I'm on my phone and it takes forever.

when I HAVE ppl trying to FORCE DOWN MY THROAT THEIR BELEIFS, when I say I will do what needs to be done, then read DO IT ASAP, DO IT NOW, no more waiting, stop dragging your heels BLAH,BLAH,BLAH. It has to be THEIR WAY or THE HIGHWAY. Why is it ok for ppl to insult me, be rude to me, bash my vet, DEMAND ME TO FOLLOW their advise NOW, yet when I stick up for my self!!!!!!! hey "what ever"

No one has made you do anything or bashed your vet, they have simply pointed out the inconsistenties in your story, as well as expressed concern for your dog and the fact that this has been going on for 17 months, 4 of which you have had the dog and there's still no cure found for him. Your vet should be doing more. If that's bashing, then your vet deserves to be bashed because obviously your vet, and you as a pet owner don't care enough about your dog do do whatever needs to be done to get him well. If you don't want to take your dog for care, Don't. Just don't come back here crying about it when he's sicker or he dies from your lack of treatment, or your vets lack of treatment, because it will be your fault for not pushing the issue and being his voice.

You yourself said you'll stick with your vet, so no, you did NOT say you will do what needs to be done. You said you'll continue to make your dog wait because you think your vet is the best in the county, when obviously uyr dog is still sick, so what exactly makes your vet the best, if it's not treating animals???

And as for people saying do it now, it's because small dogs tend to go downhill very quickly, and their health is nothing to take a wait and see approach with. 4 months is a long time to be having stomach and digestive issues, especially since you don't know what the hell is actually wrong, because you think your freaking vet hung the damn moon and won't take your poor, sick dog to a specialist to find out what's wrong and what needs to be done to fix the situation.
So yeah, people get a little pissy when others come on here and say my dog is sick but I'll keep going to the same vet who's not doing anything to help him. Makes perfect sense.

Cry me a river-members wonder about other long time members who they haven't seen in a while. When a new member comes, posts 100's of posts in every subject imaginable and runs their mouth about things they know nothing about and then leaves, we don't miss those.,,,

What I would have done is when people started asking what meds and tests were done was call my vet and ask to pick up the records, or at least ask what meds she had given.
If my dog were sick I'd be thrilled to have experienced people give a second opinion, and I'd give them all the necessary information. I've had dogs my entire life and have been through some health problems with them, but I know nothing compared to some members.

The main thing that bothers me is I feel like you're being way too passive with Cody's care. You need to know exactly what's being done and why and you need to do as much research as you can on your own. He's also suffered long enough, this problem needs to be taken care of ASAP. The best way to do that is to go to a specialist, you should contact one now because you might have to wait for an appointment.

I know how hard having IBS and being severely anemic *among other things* is on me, and I'm a lot bigger and understand more than a poor dog.

Please answer me this, is he anemic?

to answer your last question, no he is not anemic
My vet is an hour drive for me, for me to drive to them to pick up records so I can give members to me makes no sense. As I have said and I will continue to say, I am sticking with my vet until she tells me she has done all that she can, and cody still is not cured. She will recommend me where to go. Call me passive, think I don't love this lil guy like I say I do, I have to do this MY WAY, I have to be 100% sure what ever steps I take are the right steps. I thank you and everyone for your concern and advise, but I have to do what I feel is right, and pulling cody away from my vet right now I am not comfortable doing. Regardless want YT ppl think.

you are correct I did put in my first post would a vet school be beneficial, I must have been half asleep when I wrote that, I prefer to work on a one to one basis, meaning talk, see, deal with just one person rather then work with a vet school where I may have to deal with a diff person anytime I would have to see them. I apologize for saying I NEVER SAID THAT

Apology accepted.

Now, specialists do not pull dogs away from a primary care vet. They help the vet figure out what is going on.

Also, I wanted to clear something up. I never said that your vet thought Chinese supplements were a cUre for colitis. I said using them in this situation is not standard of cAre.

Ellie May 03-14-2014 03:08 AM

All I am saying is this:

A dog's intestines have been bleeding for 17 months. This is not safe. It is also making the dog feel miserable even if he isn't showing it. The dog needs more extensive veterinary care.

Of course we are going to be frustrated in a situation like this. The topic likely won't be dropped until this pup stops bleeding from his intestines.

Old faces? I bet you're one coming back with a chip on your shoulder. Happens all the time. Lots of old faces are here. See my avatar, class of 2008.

Reading your posts has me dizzy. Why did you adopt Cody if you didn't want to help the poor dog? You just don't want to spend the money. It's your job to find help for him and I'll bet your vet already begged you and you didn't listen there either.
