New puppy and a 9 year old yorkie? Hi We have a 9 year old yorkie and she has the best character EVER :) She loves everyone to death and vice versa. But our neighbours have a male chiahua and our girl is not very fond of him, even bites a little, if he's trying to come too near to us. But also- our dog hates being alone. And she has to be alone for few hours from time to time since I work and my boyfriend travels a lot. So we are thinking about taking a puppy to be her playmate. Will it work? Will our youthful old dog lady adapt? Wouldn't want to cause her any stress :) Has anyone ever been in this situation? Thanks in advance |
2 Attachment(s) Boo was 6 yrs old when we lost our sweet Annie B. We were all mourning her passing. A couple of weeks later we brought home Gracie Ruth, a 12 week old, full of puppy engery, little ball of fluff home. At first he didn't want to have anything to do with her and would sit on the couch and just look at her. Since she couldn't get on the couch, he didn't feel threatened. He was nice to her when he was around her, but he just didn't have any interest in her antics. However, you just can't stay sad with a puppy in the house and she quickly won him over. He still had the couch that he could retreat to when she got to be too much for him and by the time she could use the step stool to get on the couch they were best friends. I think if you allow her to adjust at her own rate, don't let the puppy bully her and make sure she has a place to get away from the puppy when she needs, that it'll work out. I would suggest considering a male as often there is less tension between male/female than female/female. Good luck and please keep us posted. Boo's on the right with his, "When is It leaving" look Attachment 397306 Just a few months later, here they are sharing their Pappa's recliner. Attachment 397307 |
Good luck. |
We got teddy when our other two were 8 years old. Things worked out well for us. |
It can take some adjustment time but they should be fine. Laddy was 3 when we brought Kyra home. The first month he wanted nothing to do with her now they are best of friends. |
