I never thought about cheerios that would be a very cheap alternative to buying all of those expensive doggie treats!!! |
mine get honey nut cheerios and love them....it's funny to watch them both crunching away! |

My girls love Cheerios...they are their special treat!! And when we travel we use them for the girls so we don't have to carry dog treats around....they are so healthy for them!! |
I always liked the Honey Nut Cheerios because I thought that while Olivia was still young and tiny, they were a great way to "boost" up her sugar levels and help prevent a hypoglycemia. I also got so sick of buying treat after treat after treat that she either didn't like or that I had to break into smaller pieces during training so that she didn't get full and bored. I think Cheerios are the perfect size and they're light and not too filling. You can also get a store-brand or the malt-o-meal brand for so cheap and they last FOREVER, as opposed to many of the other training treats I found. |
Found this thread and got Livie some Cheerios....I have TRIED EVERY DOG TREAT there is. Looks like she is a Cheerio girl. |

My breeder started giving Cheerios when teeth came in. Ruger is 11 months now and still gets them. I also mixed them w/honey nut ones. |
When I got Sophie the breeder said to give honey nut Cheerios as treats plus grind up a few in her food so her sugar wouldn't drop |
If your dog is healthy, their sugar shouldn't need help to stay up. Giving sugar only temporarily raises the sugar, then it takes a nose dive. Does the make of Fruit Loops no longer use artificial colors? I know a lot of food makers are finally using all natural colorings now. When I first saw the colored goldfish crackers I thought, Ew, who would ever give their kids these horrible things with bright artificial colors? But they actually use natural fruit colors. |
So pretty much all flavors of Cheerios are ok? Piper loves crunchy and she looks too, too cute chomping away, so I'd like to try Cheerios. Again, any restrictions on flavor? And (knowing my bottomless pit, chow hound of a girl) about how many in any given day? I'm excited to provide something new for Pipe! |
I use the Honey Nut Cheerios, and they only get MAYBE a total of 10 during the entire day....usually reward them 3-5 at a sitting, for any training....same thing with the little Goldfish Crackers for treats....Teddy Grahams, Fruit Loops, mine even enjoy those little crackers......Ritz Peanut Butter crackers, the ones only about the size of a dime......also Baked Original Oyster Crackers! I dont fret over artificial colors, as they dont get a steady diet of treats, and they have been getting thee items as snacks, treats, training rewards, etc. for soooooooooo many years with no issues. As far as using sugared cereal to keep pups sugar level up, I have never had issues with low blood sugar in any of my puppies or adults......but low blood sugar is NOT something that occurs as a normal thing with these dogs....hypoglycemia is not a normal symptom of all yorkies and should not be considered as normal..... and while it does occur in some puppies, it is not normal and your pup will not have hypoglycemic issues as a normally occurring event. |
