Need advice on cleaning my yorkies teeth... I"m new here. I have a 4 month old male Yorkie. The vet gave me a couple options on how to care for his teeth but I was wondering what everyone else does and what is working for you and your dog. Besides that I think potty training is going to be the death of me! My little guys name is Wrigley (dad is a Cubs fan). He's a little guy so he's my baby. Thanks for any info. :aimeeyork |
Welcome to you and Wrigley! That's a very cute name! For their teeth I brush them every Sunday. It isn't easy as Hallie hates it but Simon loves to have his teeth brushed (I think he likes the toothpaste). I use one of the fingertip brushes. I also give them flossies to chew on for their teeth. Patience with potty training :) There is a ton of information here for potty training tips! |
Well what I do to brush Chester's teeth is a take his toothbrush and put toothpaste (special kind for dogs) and let him chew on the bristle end while I kind of move the toothbrush back and forth in his mouth. It's not the most effective way probably, but it is better than not doing it at all. Having your pup's teeth cleaned occasionally by your vet is also a good idea. I usually brush Chester's teeth every few days. Congrats on the new baby! Potty training is going to be an issue for you for a while, unfortunately. Chester is 4 months and we are still having some major issues. It takes ALOT of patience. Just make sure you watch your pup like a hawk and pin her up if you can't watch her to avoid accidents. Welcome to Yorkie Talk too, by the way! |
Welcome to YT!!!!! Princess started out very young getting her teeth brushed. She loves it now, we do it every morning. She has a special cleaning every four weeks. Her teeth are good and strong. Potty training takes lots of time and patience. Hang in there, with time it will happen! Again Welcome!!!! :yorkietal |
i do the same thing as chesters mom does, put toothpast on the toothbrush and lexi licks it and i try to swirl it around her teeth,, its a real pain, she hates it.. |
We use the finger tip brushes and both Sammie and Gracie tolerate it fine. A word about potty training - it is tough and there is no way around accidents. They are babies and babies make messes, period. It took both of ours about a year to really get the hang of correct pottying. It comes with maturity - give it time - just hang in there with him - he will get it. |
I brush Alfie and lottie teeth and hey both love it , but my mums yorkie haes it so what I do with her is get a flannel (which is a square of towel) / face cloth put the toothpaste on then rub round the teeth and even if she chews at it , its cleaning some plaque of with the towel fibers , this seems to work on her so its worth a try if you cant get the brushing done , but I would try to persevere with the toothbrush let her lick the paste first then graduallymove the brush around in little circles if you can. |
