What age can you start leaving your fur baby home without being in a play pen? Chloe is about 4.5 months old. I have a play pen which has her bed, her food and water, lots of toys and a wee wee tray. She never complains in her pen and that is where she stays when I leave the house. I have a camera above it so I can check on her when I'm gone. I noticed all she does is nap and sometimes she'll play with her toys. When I come back and let her out she gets super excited and runs all around the house and plays with me. My question is when can I leave her home without a play pen? When I shower I leave her out and she just goes to lay in her bed while she waits for me, but I'm just scared to leave her without a pen when I'm really not home :( opinions? |

It depends...is she potty trained? If yes, you could let her roam into a larger space. Some of us will fence off our kiddos to a certain part of the house, so that they don't have the whole house to roam. Others let them have the full house. It really depends on what you're comfortable with. |

Lola is a year old and she can't have free rein without supervision because she gets into everything, chewing and stealing. She hasn't had a potty accident in months. My poodles were given freedom much sooner because they didn't do that nonsense. |
Maybe wait until she's done teething? For me it was when I was sure he was fully potty trained, and we kicked the nasty marking habit. He was older and we never had the chewing problem in my home. Ha! I guess you got chewing, and I got marking. Either way, with a little work, I think both problems can be managed. :) |
Some dogs feel more comfortable having a smaller area when left home alone. We keep our boys in the "Great Room" (family/breakfast/kitchen area) when we aren't inside with them. Max enjoyed his xpen until he turned 1. |
:) I think Harry was about a year old - it was never the pottying that bothered me (fortunately he was the easiest dog we've ever had to house-break woo hoo!!!) but, as others have said....the chewing. The chewing seemed to stop once he'd lost all his baby teeth, but there was still the odd incident - like a leather shoe with an attractive strap  or a lovely, dangly phone charger :eek: - but really they were our fault. So he's had the run of the house for a couple of years now - and spends most of his 'alone time' sitting on the dining room table, surveying his property to the front and back....:D |
