Side note. A lot of people were displaced when Sandy came. The people went into shelters and there was no place to bring there pets. Sometimes even though we would never think of surrendering our fur babies, you are put in a position that you have to. I have friends that lost their homes and some still living in a hotel. And some have homes that are still not have been repaired or replaced. There was so much devastation. |

Oh, that went through my head years ago, they say spring water is better, In my mind I would say, yeah but how long has it been bottled before the consumer gets it. I will go with the filter. Thanks so much for your input. everyone's, advise, suggestions, experience's have been so helpful. |

I am very much aware of this, it was horrible, BUT, I would NEVER had put my dog in a shelter, unless one was recommended to me by my vet, I would have stayed in hotel / motel that took dogs, even if I had to go out of my area, I would had slept in my car with my dog rather then put her in a "strange" shelter. ppl do what needs to be done and I can understand that, the safety of my babies is # one priory, maybe I just love my dogs more then I should, but this is who I am. I don't blame the prev. owner, she was innocently ignorant, a first time dog owner, did what she was told, trusted the info. she was given, I have had dogs all my life, yorkies 30 + years, would I but a 2 y/o baby is a shelter!!!! NO, same with my dogs, where I go they go. Thank you for your reply. |

diarrhea/soft stools, is one thing, could be from something new they feed their baby, new treat, a bit of table food, when there is mucus and BLOOD in their stool that's an ISSUE. As margaritaville pointed out, Cody came from an area that was hit by hurricane sandy, was more then likely subjected to contaminated water. Wouldn't it be wonderful if this could be done............veterinary care, new meds, new treatments have progressed so greatly in the last 25 years it is AMAZING. Thank you for you heads up. All replies age greatly appreciated |

An ozonator or reverse osmosis system, even if only used for drinking water, should help prevent additional microbial infection. You can ozonate Gerber water, etc., and health food stores sell ozonated water, often in plastic bottles...which never made sense to me but distilled water is sold in plastic, too. We have bought ozonated water in gallon jugs, too...at the supermarket. I suggest reading the label on the water, strange as that sounds. I am sorry you have endured so much, but understand what Cody means yo you. Poor baby has been through a lot himself and I understand your worry. I think it will not hurt to clean up his food and water, and hopefully quickly the rest of the answers will be discovered so he can recover from these issues. Welcome and congratulations on finding your new best friend, the adorable Cody. |

This is a lot of interesting information to me. We used to have a reverse osmosis filters. I need to install one in our new house!! I have a question about microwaving dog food. I often add pumpkin, some home cooked (a recipe that is vet approved) to my Sam's science hill kidney kibble.. and warm it up. Is that bad? |
Thank you Teri for your very kind words. Yes, 3 deaths in 7 weeks was more then over whelming for me, the 3 I loved MOST in this world are gone. I am soooo happy you found something for kitty to put him back on track. Loosing a loved pet is like loosing a child, the pain in your heart is not less when its a pet... My vet uses a oriental herb, writing is so tiny its hard to read the label ...its JING TANG herbal dietary supplement. She travels all over giving speeches and seminars on this. I will stick with her until she tells me she has done all that she can do, and Cody still has this infection. I am not going to loose this little boy, I will go, do, see who ever, where ever to cure this lil imp. He's just a baby 2 y/o, has many years ahead of him. I will go to the extreme to see if he can get cured. Again, thank you for this posting, it means a lot to me. |

I was in touch with an on line nutritionist who advised NO NOT MICRO WAVE the dogs food. I use my lap top when I come on YT, the nutritionist info I have on my desk top. I can see if I can copy what she wrote, sometimes micro soft windows will not allow me to copy things from on line. What she wrote about micro waving dogs food made 100% sense to me, Cody was eating cooked rice, I would boil one cup of rice, that makes a lot of cooked rice lol, at meal time I took his portion out of the frig, nooked it for 10 seconds only, well I stopped micro waving, used the ole fashion way lol, fry pan on stove. I will see later today if I can copy this about micro waving. Until I can do this, I would advise you not to micro wave anything for your pup, put it in a small fry pan to warm it up. |

Can you possibly put it in a bag, and immerse the bag into a bowl of hot water (like warming a babies bottle) to warm it up?? |
I am not sure what the big deal is about heating dog food/ formula in the microwave except: **heating in some plastic containers causes the plastic to leak harmful chemicals into the food.... So I heat in glass bowls! **you get "hot spots" in the food, and while it may be nicely warm in one spot, it is scalding on the bottom. I always stir anything I am heating for my dogs, with my finger, so I know and evenly disperse the "hot spots".... I also heat gently, 10 seconds at a time.... If there is another concern about heating in the microwave, I need to know! Please share! |
I always boiled water in an electric kettle and added it to their food to warm it up. http://www.mercola.com/article/microwave/hazards2.htm |

Plastic is especially dangerous to nuke with food and metal is out, of course. Oh, and nuking veggies creates plant alkaloids even if you only defrost...dangerous for any length of time, as I understand it. Chlorine is bad to consume...better to boil water to kill microbes unless it is an emergency...like a flood or hurricane to my knowledge. |

I cannot understand Cody losing a loving home either...but now he truly has a loving home. Depending on the area, drinking water can have a number of chemical additives including chlorine, fluoride, aluminum, and more. None are good, but a 'reason' will be offered for each...should a person choose to just believe and not fact check. ;) |

This is what I got from a on line web-site nutritionist Do you microwave your pet's meals? Microwave changes the molecular structure of foods and water so anything that is heated by a microwave becomes toxic to the body. The violent change that microwaving causes to the food molecules creates new life forms called radiolytic compounds. These are mutations that are unknown in the natural world. Ordinary cooking also causes the formation of some radiolytic compounds, which is no doubt one reason why it is better to feed your pet plenty of raw food, but microwave cooking causes a much greater number of these compounds. This then causes deterioration of the blood and immune system. In addition, they found that the number of leucocytes increases after feeding pets microwaved food-something which hematologists take very seriously, because this is often a sign of highly harmful effects, such as poisoning. Also, after feeding microwave food, cholesterol levels increased. Please do not even heat water in a microwave |
