How does your yorkie let you know they need to go outside? I was just wondering all the ways your doggies let you know how they need to go potty outside. Just in case I can't get my 2 bell trained. :) |
Toki uses the potty bells. Teddy will come over to you and let you know. He starts out kind of gently with a little growl and stare but if you ignore him or wait too long he gets obnoxious (barking/whistling/whining and stomping) lol! Otherwise he's a very quiet and calm dog! My sister's yorkie would come to you and dance on her hind legs and do a little arm wave...they definitely will find a way to get your attention :) |
I'm a newbie, but.. Sniffing / Smelling things She starts smelling/sniffing things such as furniture.. Paci came home Monday and has had 1 accident and that was after the 2 hr car ride home from the breeder to my house and she was put down on the living room floor. I'm training MYSELF to bring her to the back door every 1-2 hrs and I put a dish towel down in the same place and tell her to "Potty". SHE DOES!! If I notice her sniffing around any other time, I immediately take her to the designated place and do what I just typed. Because she's only 10.5 weeks old and hasn't had all of her vaccinations, I cannot take her outside to potty yet.. Now I've jinxed myself and she will probably start peeing everywhere!! LOL SNIFFING |
My Sophie will either stand by the sliding glass doors or stare at us. If she stares, I'll ask her if she needs to go potty and she'll get excited and bark if she does. I can never get over how smart she is! She's only made a handful of mistakes since she's been potty trained. She turned 6 today. : ) |
Magnus pushes around the shudders which makes noises so in a way, that's the "potty bell". But if no one seems to hear or isn't near by, he'll come and bark at one of us and then run towards the door and pushes on the shudders again. |
I thought mine to speak, many videos on YouTube to learn. Once I had that down pack I would tell them by the door before going out speak and give a treat. Then one day my older girl which is 2 1/2 started doing it on her own she had diareah that day. So I got so happy with the good girl good girl. One day my boy started speaking by the door so I did the happy dance for him too. But he still wears a belly band because he is not neutered and I've used him for stud, so he still marks around the house. Then my youngest which is 8 months picked it up in two weeks she was speaking too. So now potty time they start barking by the door. If they play or want something they squeak and whine it's a yorkie thing I guess. Good luck on your training, I'm thinking of installing a doggy door since my yard is fenced in so they can just go out. Btw my boy dosent pee when he has the belly band on but if I take it off instant marking starts. |
Very interesting posts!! YORKIES truly are very intelligent dogs! |
Zoey is bell trained to go outside but we live in indiana and there hasn't been no place to pee for months so she knows where her pee pads are. Every now and then she will hit the bell and look at me like "can I go out yet?" And I say nooooo not yet ...pee on pads and she takes off! |
PLEASE forgive my ignorance... What is bell trained?? |

Cookie goes to the door and barks. |
Sorry, I don't have the answer because I'm bad mommy. This morning I found pee on the living room rug (first time in a long time). Problem is, I don't know which one did it. They are 8 and 9yrs old. |
Depending where I AM, if in another room, or sitting in living room. my cody whines, whimpers, growls, I ask "wanna make pee pee, poo poo" he'll start his little dance, if I am in kitchen where back door is, (laundry room) he'll sit in the laundry room door way, silent, staring until I see him... I adopted Cody 3 months ago, he is 2 y/o and was house broken and leash trained. To make pee pee & poo poo I didn't know if these words were the words the prev. owner used, when I took him home the day I adopted him I took him straight to the back yard, (Cody was a surrender, my vet works with a rescue team, all rescued dogs go to vet for check up, Cody had a 2 hour drive from NY where he lived to Pa. where I live, he spent 2 nights in a crate at the vet before he came to me, his forever home, being with strangers, in a place that had scary smells, placed in a crate for 2 days & 2 nights, listening to cats & dogs barking and crying, then comes with me a total stranger, rides in car & gets car sick I knew before I put him down on floor in my house he would have to make, so out to the yard he went) when he did his pee pee I did the happy dance, clapping and praising, using the word pee pee, when he made poo poo the same thing, me dancing, clapping hands using the word poo poo. The prev. owner told the rescue team she wanted to be kept informed about the dog, I emailed, and called and received no response. After 2 weeks I get a call (sending before loosing) |
from prev. owner, I asked about any health issues, then asked what words were used for peeing & pooping, well, lol, her's were not the words that I was using, but Cody learns fast..... You will get much advise on your question, good luck |
