Mike's first bath... next... when??? HI, Mike turned 3 months about a week ago so I decided it was time for his first bath. I got him when he was 8 weeks old but wanted to wait a little before giving him a bath so he would get used to me handling him and used to his environment. This was my first time giving a bath to a puppy too, and I think we didn't do to batch for our first time :-P .... Now, how often should I give him a shower???? I was thinking twice a month??? Here is a little video documenting the process in case you were wondering ..... LOL. |
Omg, he is TOO cute! His expression at the very end is perfect. Good job on the bath, he looks like he did great! Some people do baths weekly, some every other week, some every 3 weeks. I do mine about every other week, like you're planning. Sometimes I accidentally might go a bit longer, but it's no biggie. |
Oh my...what a cute little furbaby. Mike is adorable and he looks like a million dollars after that bath. Loved the look he gave the camera at the end. |
OH my. That video gave me puppy fever. I give mine baths once a week. But Barney loves being outside and usually he has a fair share of mud and such that needs to come off. Every two weeks aught to be plenty. This might be a big no no, but I spray Barney's brush with cologne and brush him with it between baths. This helps extend his bath a little. |
lol, sooo sweet, you did a GREAT job with a first time bath, I cannot believe how good he was with it. You have done an EXCELLANT job in training him, he's very obedient for such a young puppy. The blow out alone usually scares them specially a first time. He took it without a blink of an eye. I love his look at the end of the video. Thank you for sharing with us. You are a GREAT, CARING and LOVING dad. |
You both did wonderful! Mike's just too cute for words. Was his tongue sticking out a bit at the end?! I bathe my two about once a month. They're not really "outside" dogs and I wipe them down from head to tail from any time we've been outside with baby wipes. I think it really depends on your preference. If you decide to bathe them often, make sure Mike's skin doesn't get dry. |
I understand if you bathe dogs often oatmeal shampoo is best, does not dry out skin. I bathe Cody once a month & use oatmeal shampoo, bathing goes smoothly, he is 2 y/o, I put him in the shower stall, it's the hair dryer that starts the battle lol. You will get plenty of advise on bath time and shampoos. |
I'm one of the weird ones! I bathe 2-3 times a week. Kaji's skin is perfectly fine in fact he's so use to it, he doesn't fight the process and even runs under the spout himself to rinse off. Sometimes he's helping sometimes he's not. ;) If it's too cold, I might skip his mid week bath just because I don't want him to be cold. This is my personal preference due to a combination of things. Mostly it's due to allergies and my chronic bronchitis, and partly because I really don't like the idea of a dirty doggy sleeping in my bed. :p |
More importantly, start brushing teeth daily now!!! I didn't get to raise my doggy as a puppy and he never got use to teeth brushing. To this day it's a big battle that sometimes turns into a war. :( |
I think how often you need to bathe Mike will depend on Mike. I have 2 boys. I usually bathe them once a week because my 2 year old has a silky coat and he looks like a crusty mess 3 days after his bath. My older dog has a cottony coat and he could easily go for 2 or 3 weeks without a bath and he'd still look ok. |
:D OH MY GOODNESS!!!! :D Mike is just so incredibly GORGEOUS!!!! :D And such a good little boy - you've done amazingly well with him! Harry was bigger than him when he was BORN..... We shower Harry weekly by the way - not that it matters - think I've got to go and have another look at your baby.....:D |
Mike says thank you to you all :-) . I will try the once every other week method and see how he responds. I take him out to 15-20 minutes walks every day, but nothing that would get him too dirty... Thank you for all the advice. |
He is just too darn cute for words. It is obvious that he trusts you a lot, as he didn't fuss and cry at all with bath and blower. I bathe my 4 pupsters weekly since they are in and out of the yard all day, and they all sleep with me. I love having clean sheets and clean doggies every Sunday. I especially love the smell of Petsilk rain forest conditioner on them You can do a little touch up on Mike with a washcloth in between baths to remove eye boogies, around the mouth if he's a messy eater, and wipe off his private areas. Keeping hair trimmed around privates helps too. |
The video is definitely adorable. I am not a huge fan of the puppy phase, but seeing mike definitely made me think about how it could be cool to raise one from puppyhood. He sure is full of puppy cuteness. |
I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS! Mike is so CUTE! I took Paci to the vet for her new puppy check up today and asked my vet about baths. She said about once a week unless she gets dirty. Put a towel in the dryer so it's nice and warm to dry her off with. Brush her hair before bath to get any tangles out of hair Dry her with a blow dryer (hair completely dry) bc wet dog hair can become stinky Said to be careful with shampoo around the eyes and mouth with puppies at this age Oh Yeah... If paws get dirty they can be cleaned with baby wipes Good job on da bath! |
