Hi All-

I am new member to the site. I have been using the message boards for answers to questions and just information in general and thought I would finally sigh up. I have a 5 month old Yorkie name Winston who is my husband and my worlds.

He is a quirky little guy.

Some things...

He barks and hates his food bowls. We had a plastic bowl and then went to metals bowls that are in a small stand. He drinks the water out of the one metal bowl but will not go near or bark his head off if we put food in the other. We moved the food to a salad plate we use and he is ok with it but still is being picky not eating all the food. i tried putting alittle au jus on his dry food to be more appealing.

He loves us so much, but when we leave him in his pen in the one room and go upstairs he loses his mind. He hates being away from us. I know that is a yorkie nature, but I wasn't sure if there was something else I should be doing.

He is such a lovable dog, I can't wait to get home to him at night.

He is getting neutered and microchipped on Friday and I know it's a standard procedure but I'm still so nervous, I just want him to be perfect.

I'm looking forward to talking to the rest of the yorkie lovers out here and learning as much as I can.

Hi! WELCOME and CONGRATS on Winston - he sounds adorable. You'll have to post some piccies sometime.

Does he have a positive association w/ his kennel yet? If not, maybe put him in the kennel when you're hanging out in the same room, so he can be in it and feel secure at the same time that you're nearby? Then maybe keep moving the kennel farther and farther away?

I hope all goes well w/ the neutering - I know it's scary to put them under but I'm sure he'll do GREAT. Make sure the vet pulls any retained baby teeth while he is under, otherwise you'll have to put him under soon again.

As far as bowls, I use a really shallow tart dish...maybe he'd like it.

welcome to YT, great that you are neutering and micro chipping, you're on the right track. Yes it is scary for us mommies to have to put our babies through this, have been there my self, this is the BEST thing helath wise to do for your lil boy. I don't and never had issues with any of my babies when it came to food bowls, however, you will get much advise soon. And yorkies do NOT LIKE to be separated from their mommies & daddy's they want to be every where you are lol, that's their nature. Again, you soon will get plenty of advise on this. I do not have to crate my dog, so I cannot offer up any suggestions. Good luck and keep us posted,

I saw a training technique on animal planet where the owner leaves the room for a minute, comes back, reward/praise. Slowly, lengthen the time being away. And repeat the process. Good luck and hope to see a picture of your furbutt soon!

My little man goes in tomorrow. I'm nervous but only because I love him so much.

I have been giving him food on a plate and I have also put alittle brown sauce on it and he nows eats it up. He was not eating just the dry food. Not sure if it's his teething that was bothering him, but for the last 3 feedings he has eaten it all because of the topping.

I don't crate him anymore. He snuck his way into our bed which my husband and I are fine with. We do have a gated pen we put him in during the day while we are at work. It has a bed, with his litter box and his water and toys. He doesn't bark much when we leave the house because he knows we are leaving the house, but if I have him in there because I have to go to the basement or to another part of the house and he knows I'm still in the area, he loses it and barks his head off. Wish that would stop.

It's such a family on here, I love it!

Welcome and congratulations on your new baby! One word of warning.... Yorkies are very addictive!;):D It won't be long until you want another one. I have 4.
