Marking Territory everywhere My male loves to mark his territory everywhere, even in my house ---:mad::mad: how do I stop this?? :animal-pa:animal-pa:animal-pa sl123 |
How old is he? Has he been fixed. It will help with answering with more info on your pup :-) welcome to YT :-) |
welcome to YT, if neutered early, before marking becomes a habit it may be eliminated. Depending on the age of your dog, neutering may be an option unless you are planning on breeding him. If no breeding is in your plans, neutering is a wise and healthy choice for a possible longer and healthier life with you. |
Do like I do, put a belly band on him. He doesn't like to pee on himself, even though he does occasionally forget. I put a mini pad in the band and change it if he pees. You have to take them off when he goes out, but it will sure save your sanity and whatever he decides to mark on. Gunner will never be a trustie, so he will always have a bellyband on where ever we go, camping and visiting. |
where do I find belly bands ?? |
he is just 1 yr old, he isn't fixed, b/c I am hoping to stud him, I need more info on that before I decide.. |
It only seems to be when noone is looking -- I have seen him try and I get on to him, and take him out then he goes potty and sprinkles everywhere. But my daughter's friend came over one night, and he sprayed on her shoes -- I don't know if he smelled another dog or what? He has sprayed on my daughters backpack, who hasn't been around other dogs.. So I don't know but I am willing to try almost anything to make it stop!! |
You can find bellybands on ebay pretty cheap. I would reconsider studding him out. If you do that, I can guarantee he will pee even more. He is marking his territory and if he has had a female he will do this 1 million times more! I'm not big on the idea of neutering (I live in the country, have a fenced in yard and he never gets out of my sight), only for health reasons. But, on the other hand, if you live in a city type area and breed him he will try to get out and find a girl all the time. |
Doesn't matter if he smelled another dog. He found something new in his house and he wanted it to be his because he's top dog. So he marked the friend's shoes. There is no logic or reason. He will just do what his hormones tell him to do. After studding, I hear it gets worse. I neutered my crazy marking boy at 12 months. After neuter and 3 months of training, we've successfully helped him kick the habit! It's not an issue anymore and my furniture, clothes, shoes, EVERYTHING is safe. My whole house was starting to smell like pee before the neuter. Yuck! |

@DVLSHANGEL 95 -- thanks for the incite.. I will definitely take this into consideration. |
If you do decide to use him for a stud then get ready for a lifetime of marking. |

Neuter him. Be prepared to clean up pee for the rest of his life should you choose to stud him. Good luck! |
