Introducing Mike 2 Attachment(s) Hi, I adopted a little yorkie about 1 month and a week ago, he was 8 weeks went I took him home. I am a guy, and I was looking for a pet/friend I can share my life...I suppose that being a guy I was supposed to look for another breed perhaps an english bulldog or a pug, but there is something about Yorkies that I couldn't resist adopting this little guy. He is really smart and has a great personality, sometimes he want to run the show his way, so I have to be a little more firm with him, but once he gets that he is not the boss around the house, he is a great Yorkie. He was housebroken in less than two weeks, and for the month and days he's been with me, he already learned his Stay, Sit, Down commands, and he is progressing really fast with his Roll Over command currently. I try to keep his mind busy and he loves it. He is extremely active and a little hyper and he eats a lot for his size. I am watching how he responds to the quantity of food I provide now, because once he ate so much that his tummy was hard and he would have pain if I lift him, I had to wait until he went to the bathroom before I could pick him up, he was running and jumping all over the place after he released all that food he ate. Well, I will be lurking around the forum to learn how to properly take care of my buddy, seems that there is a lot of info to absorb around here. Just a couple of pictures of him...... First pictures is Him the first week I got him.... 8 weeks old and weighting .95 lbs. Second pictures is Him this weekend after his first bath ..... 3 months and days old and weighting 1.3 lbs. Tks. |
Hi and WELCOME to YT :)! He is just *adorable*. Those pictures of him in the car...he almost looks like a tiny stuffed animal! He definitely sounds like a true terrier, trying to run the house and all :p. I think a lot of men grow to really like yorkies bc they do have such a big personality. To me, they're like big dogs inside a small body. They're very quirky and unique too - each one has their own little goofy habits they develop. Glad you found us and looking forward to getting to know you and your new fur baby! |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Your baby boy is absolutely adorable! You make a very nice pair. Sounds like you are doing very well together too. There are more than a few male members here. "Alaskayorkie", Mike, is the most notorious. ;) He is a really good guy and a great resource for information. |
Welcome to YT. Our little guy is my husbands shadow. I think it is great how these little ones can melt a mans heart as well as us ladies. He is adorable. |
welcome to YT, you've come to the right place to learn about this lil terror Whoops lol mean terrier. Yep, yorkies will TRY to be the boss & take over, but seems you have that under control. They are hyper & LOVE to work, meaning learning things, for someone who says you know little about the breed seems you know more then you think you do, you have him sitting, staying, etc, all in a short time, and house broken as well, GOOD JOB Miguel. By the way he is an absolutely adorable lil guy, you're gonna have the girls chasing after you with that little cutie. I have two male friends that have yorkies, they take their babies every where they go. Yorkies like Wylie's Mom said "they are like big dogs in a small body" (So the yorkie thinks lol.) You have gotten a GREAT lil breed there, love & enjoy him. |
Welcome to YT, Miguel. As a guy, you will no doubt get sneers from friends and strangers alike, who will tell you "that's not a dog." Your job, which you've already begun to do, is to prove them wrong. Raise your dog so it's happy, fun-loving, smart, sociable, healthy and as athletic as its little body will allow. And love him like every day is his last, whether he lives to be 2 or 20. When people don't get it, stop by here to find people who understand that these little dogs are amazing. I love his name -- Mike! He even SOUNDS intelligent ;p |

Since your little pup is proving to be smart already, he will probably have you signing up for good citizen classes, nose work classes, agility, and therapy dog training in no time. |
Hey guys, Thank you for the warm welcome... I am not shy about showing him as my dog... on the contrary, I recently started taking him out to the mall, market, and everywhere I go and people are amazed that such a tiny dog is so well behaved and listens and acts to his commands. (by the way some peple sometimes ask me if he is a cat LOL ) He has been learning to walk on a leash for about two weeks already and I am very careful when I walk him thru people and watch him at every step..but I think he and I have to learn how to act when people is around and teach him to socialize...... but once he is down walking on the leash if there is people around, there is no way I can take 10 steps without people surrounding us or following us asking questions.... Even the big dogs guys comment on how smart he is being so tiny and that they wish their Big Dogs would listen to them. I had a guy with tattos and pearcings all over him, that breeds Pitbulls ask me where I adopted him because he wanted to adopt a yorkie himself. He just had his third shot so when people want to pet them I ask them to wipe their hands with some whipies I always carry with me... .LOL ... if they don't they they can just look.... LOL. I think I am being a little overprotective there... but I don't want to take any chances with my buddy... :-P ... |
What a gret looking puppy ! From one yorkie dad to another ! Welcome |
Welcome to Yorkietalk :) Mike is adorable. The pictures in the car make him look like he is a little stuffed animal, too cute. It sounds like the two of you are getting along just well. |
