Licking/chewing paws My Molly had been licking and chewing on her paws. I had her to the vet and they suggested I change her food. It was time to switch her to an adult brand anyway so I did just that and switched brands in the process. She seemed to be doing very well. I slipped up and gave her something that was corn based and that night she was back to chewing and licking. After a couple days she stopped so that makes me think that there is a corn allergy for sure. A couple of weeks has passed and two nights ago she started again. She is due for a trip to the groomer this week. Could this possibly just be that her nails are too long? I don't trim them myself because I am horrified at the thought of cutting them to short. So needless to say they only get done every 4-6 weeks. They really look too long to me so I'm hoping this could be some of the problem. Any thoughts? |
as far as getting her nails cut every 4 to 6 weeks, if you THINK they are long and it's not time for grooming just bring her in to get her nails clipped.... in N Y, NJ, & Pa. you can walk into most any groomer without an appt. and they will clip nails right away. |

It could also be allergies, is she chewing at her nails or her paws? Itchy paws are a hallmark of allergies. Get her nails trimmed but if that doesn't work you may want to look into allergies. Hope she feels better soon! |
No, this is not bc her nails are too long. Chewing/licking paws are the cardinal sign of allergies. Food allergies account for only about 10-15% of all allergies; most allergies are environmental..ie, pollens, dust, grasses etcetera. Here is how to approach allergies: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/die...tart-here.html |
