Yorkie Sailing to the Keys and Bahamas Hello, My name is Joy and my baby is Stella. She is 12 weeks old and we have been together for 2 weeks. My husband and I retired and sold our home and bought a 42CC Beneteau Sailing Yacht. We plan on sailing from Galveston to the Keys, Bahamas and up to Maine for next summer. Stella learn to use the potty paper for poop within the week, but still does not pee pee on the potty pad every time. Does it take Yorkies longer to train for peeing on the training pads? We bought her a XXXS life jacket and she loves sailing so far in the Gulf with no motion sickness. Has anyone had any experience of sailing with yorkies? |
No advise but one word that I'm feeling: jealous :D...I'm sure some members will have advice...bump Btw Welcome to YT! Would love to see pics of ur yorkie in her lifevest!!! |
Maybe try getting some of that "pee here" spray from Petsmart - that may help...? |
Don't give up on the training! It will happen...it took my little one 6 months to really master the pee pad. |
My previous Yorkie sailed with me. She did well. Had to tether her in higher seas, but I have a sail boat not a yatch. Just be persistent- she is still young. It it is good that she is starting this at a young age. I did train Puddin' in a swimming pool to get up on things I would throw in the water - a cooler lid, innertube, floating mats etc. |
We didn't sail, but we had a 42ft cabin cruiser when we got Huey and he loved it. I had to keep his life vest on him, though, because once we anchored out, he would leap into the river if there were any people out floating or swimming! I miss the boat, but not the $$ involved in keeping it up... Some of our friends had 2 beagles that ran all over their boat, untethered, no life vests, even when underway. Scared the poop outta me. |
Have no experience with yorkies, poodles yes, when I was married we were boaters, (cabin cruiser) kept a life jacket on my baby, she liked to walk on the gunnel when we gassed up. My cousin & her husband owned a 47 ft sloop, awesome, beware of stowaways that rip sounds magnificent, you may find me and my baby boy Cody hiding, lol. |
Hello :wavey: and Welcome to YT. I would put a little bit of her pee on the wee wee pad. It will help her use it. Also put her in a small area. If the area is too big then she will not find it. |
When I read the title I thought there was a charter cruise with YORKIES! OMG I would have been all over that! I am so happy for you! As for your question, they make these pee pad holders. That might help her to know where the pad ends and begins. It makes a little lip around the pad so they have to step up onto it. It's not tall, usually only about 1/2". |
I can't wait to start the adventure. We decided to stay very active will keep one very young. I will try to post pics when I can. |
Has anyone used that Pee Spray with success? |
