what to do? my little guy is home alone during the day while I teach. I leave around 6.30 and usually home by four.He is always very excited to see me when I get home until my neighbors on second floor come home which is usually by 5.30. Their lovely people and love my little guy but i don't want to impose all the time because he whines and whines scratches the door so i can let him go downstairs. Lately ive been letting him go downstairs daily around 6 because he goes crazy once he hears them. . How can I break him out of this habit? Ive told the neighbors not to give him treats but they do anyway. He gets his daily walk when i get home. |
Is he going to your neighbors' alone? I would be very concerned about that, and the treats. I would come up with an activity to distract him when they come home. |
Could you have him out on his walk when the neighbors get home? Maybe as you go by their apartment on your way home from walking the two of you could stop to say a quick "hi"? |
What about tv? 1 Attachment(s) Do you have directv? I just purchased Dog tv for my Zoey and am amazed how much she watches it! So we leave it on when we leave too. When she gets up in the morning and as I sit down with my morning coffee she taps me on the leg then settles in front of the tv looking at it patiently waiting for me to turn it on.....it's hilarious. First day she was so excited all she did was bark. But it was a good teaching tool to control her barking, I'll say. |

that is too cute!!! |
Can you arrange to be out walking for a couple of weeks during the time they come home to break him of the habit? Or be busy training him in obedience with luscious, high-value treats he'll do just about anything to get or just playing and roundhousing with him during the time they arrive. Hiding treats around the house and directing him to them and clapping, celebrating each time he finds one or giving him his kong toy filled with his favorite food when you hear them come in the door is another way to keep him distracted and if he stops and listens, re-toss the kong toy across the floor to re-direct him to it. |

Lol And she never gets tired of it! She will be playing then suddenly stop and turn her head around to look what's on tv.....or just take off in a dead run and zoom up her steps to get a close up.... She likes "Too Cute" too. Lol |
