New Morkie Baby (and pic!) Well hello! I've been lurking on this site for days now and figured it's time to join in the fun. I'm the od new momma of an 8 week old morkie baby. I will be picking him up and bringing him home on Sunday and I'm RIDICULOUSLY excited!! (4 more days) I'm completely enthralled by the blonde color, it's just so bright compared to others I've seen at this age. I'm thinking about transitioning him to a 100% home cooked diet but I'm unsure how to proceed without messing up his poor tiny stomach, digestion or appetite etc. any suggestions? Any how, here's my new baby :D http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l6...ps63687da3.jpg |

What a cute little one. I hope the pup and you have joy and fun together. * weeks is a little young to bring home anyway you can hold out till the pup is 12 weeks. I know it's a long hard wait but much better for your new fur kid:) |

Pups should stay with there moms until 12 weeks is there any way the breeder will keep her a few more weeks? There mom is still teaching her pups bite inhibition, socialization and other things between 8-12 weeks. |

To, be honest I'm not really certain. But since she has already made arrangements for transport, it may be too late to change the date |

Yes, genetic testing on both as well as a health guarantee on the puppy where I can bring him back to her if there's something wrong with him |

8 weeks is way to young to leave mom. A professional breeder would not let pup go at such a young age, 6 weeks is the usual age. Godd luck you you and you lil morkie, the are lil cuties. Please send pics and keep ujp updated. |

sorry I miss read ad, thought it was a 2 week old pup, 12 weeks would be better, but if arrangements have already been made!!!!! 8 weeks is NOT a dangerous age to leave mom. have fun with your new baby, I know how excited you must be. |

Hi NurseLo, and welcome to Yorkie Talk! Your little guy is adorable, and I can see your excitement. I have 3 Morkies, and 1 Yorkie, and they sure are fun. I wish you all the best with your new boy, and if you have any questions let us know. There is a ton of information that might be helpful for you in this from the Yorkie Talk Library: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/pup...w-parents.html |

Thank you everyone :) I'm still super excited and counting the days. I think I will be taking weekly or twice a week pictures to document his growth and color change. I can't wait! |

I totally agree with all that you say, poster wrote that arrangements already made & didn't know if they could be changed. That's why I wrote 8 weeks is not dangerous, but I do agree with you 1000% 12 weeks, and good breeder knows this, so that tells me, this IS NOT A BREEDER, someone's dog that had pups, at their wits end for having to care for pups, and looking to get rid of them all ASAP. |

Have you thought of a name yet? |

welcome to YT, what type of transport will your pup be traveling in. I hope it's not by plane, while there is mixed feelings on if 8 weeks is to young to leave their mom, I do think it is to young to be shipped. I have a yorkie mix as well so I am by no means a high end yorkie snob, but I do have to say, I have never seen a breeder of mixes health test. In reality very few breeders health test and most are show breeders, so this has me curious. I hate to ask, because I normally try not to rain on someone's parade when getting a puppy, but I have seen so many people lately get taken by internet breeders of "designer breeds" can you tell us where your puppy will be coming from. |

below is one of the threads that came to mind about being taken in by a fancy internet web site breeder. Had this gal only asked what we thought of this breeder she would have saved herself a lot of heartache and money. You also say that you are in love with the color of the this pup, do you realize that the color will change, they change in Yorkies but they really change in Morkies. I have seen many that start out looking like a yorkie which yours does, but then turn almost 100% light blond by a year. I happen to like that look and we have several beautiful Morkies on YT, but just wanted you to be prepared for that. To me the look of my dog is important, so while others say it is to the benefit of the pup to stay with their mom till about 12 weeks, selfishly I like to wait till 3-4 months because at that age you will have a much better idea of the look and weight of the adult dog. LOL some days I think I will scream if I read another post where they say the breeder told me my dog would be 5 lbs only to have it wind up at 5 lbs at 3 to 4 months of age. I wish you much luck and happiness with whatever pup you bring into your home and I am hoping you are going in with eyes wide open and not wearing rose colored glasses. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...s-yorkies.html |

Yes, I'm aware that he will change colors, it's why I said I will be keeping track so I can document the change.im actually very fascinated by the sometimes extreme color change, I think it's pretty neat. Though I do not prefer an all light dog, that wouldn't discourage me from all the bows, sweaters, hats and little jackets :) . He will still be my baby even if he fades all the way to silver or white. The only reason I even say I don't prefer one is because my other 2 dogs were both white and I wanted a different look for this pup but I knew when I began researching the breed that whatever pup I got was likely not going to remain the same |

There are many opinions on diet, but most important is to make sure that all nutrients necessary for proper growth and development are provided, especially in the first year. Home cooking is one option but should be done under the guidance of a pet nutritionist. I did partial homecooking for mine for a few years, but included a high quality kibble to make sure they got essential vitamins and nutrients. |

The diet thing is something im back and forth on. I was going to transition him to Blue and leave it at that, but I've read a couple of articles that say that food isn't so great either. Its starting to seem as if no brand is safe! Some of these creatively named ingredients twist my stomach just thinking about them |
