Rosie is not eating Hi all,im looking for any advice about Rosie who is at the moment at The Hospital being treated on a drip.Noone knows whats wrong with her (even the vet) she stopped eating and drinking Sunday morning and has not touched food or water since. She is very sleepy but after blood tests and xray they cant seem to figure out whats wrong.Has anyone elses Yorkies done this ?? shes 10 months old and only weighs 5lb 4oz ,Very worried |
Sending prayers...poor Rosie and Mommy too |
oh no....I am sending many prayers and I hope they can find a diagnosis and direction to go in. stay strong Rosie and get better soon! |
Really sorry about your baby girl, someone more knowledgable will come along later , hope she feeling better soon |
I certainly have sympathy for you/her conditions, and excuse me for being so blunt... But, real Animal Hospitals have answers and results, I'd think about getting another Institution/Vet involved for a second opinion. XRay of what ? I would have focused on her Intestinal Tract, reluctance to eat/drink is quite frequently caused by a blockage. Doesn't mean that it won't pass, and some things can be very hard to see. Endoscopy of stomach contents would be an option. Was that Blood Test a Tox or other ? Could she have been bitten (spider/snake) is she exposed to situations like that ? Sorry, but I'd be so livid that I'd probably be throwing things at this point if it were one of mine... You need answers, and you need to get her to someone who can give them to you !!! |
Rosie has been put on Antibiotics today and seems a lot brighter this evening. The vet says that nothing showed up in blood results or in xray but not sure what else they can do.They said they have nothing to go on as shes not in pain and all results show nothing.I have a feeling that she has had a bug or virus and the antibiotics are kicking in (hopefully) |
Was she still able to potty when she stopped eating? It sounds like a blockage in some ways but the not drinking has me stumped also. Praying for her to get better soon. |
Just got home from this mornings visit and she was very active but still not eating or drinking !!! vet says that xray would have shown up any blockage but I said I disagree (although im not a vet) he seems to think she is not eating because shes not at home !!! OMG how stupid, she wouldn't starve herself for no reason and has only picked up since being on antibiotic drip. I don't want to make too much noise at the vets but I do feel they need to investigate a lot more yet.Waiting for vet to call me later to go over next steps. Thanks for all your well wishes, she looked happy today thankfully |
If it were me I would try to find a good Vet school to have her seen at. There is a reason she is not eating. There are some things that do not show up in xrays. Have they done an ultra sound on her? |
I brought her home last night and she has nibbled tiny bits of food and will lick water from a bottle while im pouring it but still wont drink properly. She is due to go back into Vets tonight to be looked over again if she still refuses everything for further tests. She has chewed up a Dentastix but refuses anything put in front of her to the point of pushing it away with her paw. |
Try boiling some chicken or beef with bones for a couple hours and then offer the lukewarm broth...it is very nutritious and my guys lap it up even when they feel sick. I sometimes juice some celery and carrots to add to it also. Hope she picks up soon. |
Have you tried anything absolutely delicious she normally does not resist? I think any food in her would be better than no food at all since she's on medication too. Warm chicken broth with some tender chicken breast? |
Gosh, how very worrisome . I'd try boiling some chicken and try feeding her some chicken w/ white rice. But also, try sprinkling Parmesan cheese (the kind in the can) on her current food - Parm is nice and pungent and often will entice a dog to eat. Dogs eat first with their nose, so it may help. Good luck, hope she feels better, and keep us posted. |
Rosie is eating this afternoon but only if I hand feed her Haha she will take milk from a spoon as well.Visiting vet soon and hopefully now she is taking bits she will be ok and no need to stay in there.I will try the chicken broth later as well.Thank you all so much for your kind words and concern. |
Dentastyx can cause blockages... as can any types of animal hide chews and body parts (pig ears, hooves, etc) Milk is not good for dogs... can cause diarrhea. Yogurt or cottage cheese would be a better choice. Hope she feels better soon... |
