Question about boarding? My parents, grandmother, and I are going on a cruise. We have a family friend that is coming to take care of our bigger dogs. I found a woman in my area that has a pet sitting business. I contacted her about keeping Cricket for me while I am gone and I am going to see her facilities with Cricket before I leave her there. I guess I'm just worried because, even though Cricket has had her liver shunt repaired and is doing GREAT since then, I guess I'm just a little worried about leaving her...... I don't want to leave her at my vets office because he has said the dogs he boards don't really get any personal attention, someone just comes in to feed and take them outside, other then that they are in cages the whole time. Thoughts? |
I mentioned dogvacay.com on the other post but maybe it's something worth your time as well. Perhaps there's a sitter there that has experience with dogs are/used to be unwell. It's always good to explore options. Good luck finding a good sitter and enjoy your cruise! |

I have boarded Sophie twice at my vet. Once at 7 1/2 months for a week and at 11 1/2 months for 12 days. I was the hardest thing we ever did. My vet does let her out and she gets to play with the staff. We pay extra for walks weather permitting and they send me pictures of her. I talk to them every day while away. We checked out daycares and private professionals however, we never felt like we could trust anyone completely. At least if something goes wrong i.e. she will not eat they feed her EN Gastro and all is well. I do not worry about her breaking a leg while there as she loves to jump. I have had the same vet for over 30 years and is the only one I would trust with Sophie. I know Sophie was very happy there as when we picked her up the last time we got all the happy kisses and excitement. Next thing I see is Sophie running behind the reception desk to play with the staff and then back to the back of the building where her kennel was. And here we were having the separation anxiety:D I can honestly say I believe her stays there have made her a more confident girl. No separation anxiety. No bad habit changes. If anything she is even more sweet, more independent and more loving than ever.:aimeeyork |
This is JUST ME, I have given up many opportunities for vacationing with friends & family because I have always had dogs, I do not TRUST anyone, family, friends, pet sitter, my vet does not give personal attention, but I have seen staff members that truly LOVE certain dogs take them out of crates and play with them. My babies are # 1 with me, I knew this when I got my first dog back in the late 70's. If I cannot take my dog with me, I will not go, but that is me. My babies mean the world and beyond, Good luck in finding a good loving sitter for your baby. |
