Best Yorkie food? I'm going to be moving out soon with my little Layla. She's about 3 maybe 4 years old. I want to feed her much better quality food. I've researched tons of hollistic good and what not but I want to know what you guys have to say about the food you feed your yorkies:) |
I feed Nutrisca Lamb Grain/potato Free kibble. It really works well for mine as the girls had a lot of itching and skin issues. Since they have been on this for the last 9 months, they have little or no itching or sores, hair is shiny and they are healthy. This company has not had any recalls on their dog food, but a recall on a chicken jerky treat. It has a low glycemic index, 30% protein & 18% fat. |
Currently I'm feeding Teddy Earthborn Great Meadow Feast (also a grain-free, potato-free lamb kibble)...I've been wanting to try Teddy on that Nutrisca that Deb1 mentioned so maybe we'll get that one sometime in the future! Other brands of kibbles I like are Wellness (particularly their Core line), Fromm, Acana, and Natural Balance (this is the one my parents feed their sensitive/allergy beagle and she does really well on it...and I also like it for Toki if I'm supplementing her canned food with a small amount of kibble). I have been feeding Toki primarily canned/wet food since probably around last April/May or so and use several different high quality canned foods (depending on what there is a good deal on). This has worked really well for us! |
I don't think there is a 100% best food but I think most important is you need to look at the company research it and see if they have had recalls for what and how they handled it as well as just anything about the company, then research and look at ingredients and then go with what your dog does best on. Personally I think home cooking is the best food for dogs but it has to be done right and be a recipe from a vet nutritionist and you have to use a supplement to balance it which both can be found on balanceit.com |
I feed Fromm |
I'm feeding my 13 week old nature's variety raw chicken and acana kibble. She really likes it. She isn't as flaky and itchy now. The breeder had her on royal canin. This is what works for her and every dog is different. We tried Orijen but she wouldn't touch it. |
I've been feeding my yorkies Amicus. They really like it and I like what I've researched about it, but I'm a bit concerned about the high protein content (32%) and it tends to give my 4 month old enough gas to clear a room! I hear so many different views on protein content and have spent hours trying to find the right food! I seriously find it harder to feed a dog than a human! lol :) |
