Help Needed Ok guys, I need help here. I am at the end of my rope. Most of you know Molli, she is the most energetic yorkie I have ever met and has had problems with poo eating since she was a puppy (is now 3) My DH just got a new job which requires him to travel a bit, he will be unable to come home for lunch on my long work days (Mon and Thurs I work 9-10 hour days). Molli can not be left for that long, she eats her poo and causes mischief. I am taking them both to work with me today but this is not something I want to do every week (the shelter has too many germs). I would do doggy day care but my older dog Chibi does not really like to play all day and I don't know any good ones I can trust that will watch her to make sure she doesn't eat poo. We have done training, she knows 'leave it' and for the most part she is good but every once in a while she slips up, if she eats poo it causes her to throw up which she then tries to eat that also. I can not risk leaving her alone for 9 hours. I don't know anyone I can leave her with either or that I would trust to check on them during the day (we have a lot of steal-able things at our apt.) What are my options here? Do I trust day care? Do I risk illness and take them to work with me? Is there any other options I am not thinking of?? |
Pineapple? I've seen discussions here on yt and several people have said it works. Thankfully, my two have never done this. Good luck! |
the pineapple worked for us for about a month with keylo. we pretty much do not leave her alone.......for the most part if we can avoid it to watch her like a hawk for poops. I wish I had something to offer for advice. :( |
Day Care would be an option...but would she just eat poo there? I am sure dogs poop all over there and unless someone is watching her constantly, she may be able to get to it before they realize it and clean it up. What about putting some kind of diaper and probably a onesie on her so she couldn't get to it. The diaper would have to be one without a hole. On the downside, you'd have a messy dog to wash and she'd have to sit in a dirty diaper until you got home. I don't know if that would be much better, but she couldn't eat her poo that way. Other than pineapple, I am fairly certain there's stuff you can feed them to get them to stop eating their poop. It makes their poo taste nasty so they don't eat it. I think I've seen some stuff at Petco for it. I would try to find something to deter her from eating the poo. |
They sell some pills at Walmart that help stop poo eating it worked for me after 3 months he stop eating poo so I discontinued the pills. |
Have you tried probiotics w/digestive enzymes? Sometimes they can eat poop bc the food is not fully digested, it still smells like food to them. The enzymes should help digest everything & probiotics should help their tummy from getting upset. P.S. pineapple works bc it changes the pH of their gut, same thing a digestive enzyme does, except the latter works instantly. |
I tried forbid and she already gets probiotics and a herbal mixture in her food every day. The problem is it only happens like every 2-3months so would I just feed her pineapple everyday forever? |
If you're worried about doggie day care having too many germs and such, have you tried looking for dog sitters where you can leave Molli at the sitter's place? I've heard good things about finding good sitters on dogvacay.com. I think the price would be close to what you'd pay for daycare. I think if you use their service often, maybe s/he'll even give you a discount. Wouldn't hurt to look into it? Good luck! |
Does the probiotic have digestive enzymes? |
