Depends on the harness. I have a buddy belt harness. I love them. Kristin (Maximo ) sells them

I use a Snoozer Luxury Lookout II for Katie along with her Buddy Belt. At this point I'm using the Snoozer tether, but I am considering the Pawrider tether. The airbag on my car does not deploy unless a certain weight is met on the seat. The Buddy Belt is a very safe harness; it's one of many reasons why I love it. Katie loves going for rides in the car, and she is so well behaved. It's another way to keep her mind stimulated, but I also want to make sure that Katie is safe.

:thumbup: Car rides are a big part of my boys' lives.

I am considering the Pawrider too, if I don't use the carabiners.

It's like seat belts and air bags for humans. They help, but humans are still injured in car accidents. The best way to avoid injury is to drive defensively and as safely as possible.

they had some listed in dog fancy for feb or jan, the one I use for chester was in the top 7, the ones the actually made it

They don't show the force of an airbag, because just like a child, a dog should never be in the front seat. I have heard that plastic crates will explode on impact. Even when secured with the seat belt, it's still pretty scary. I think I would choose a wire crate over plastic, but soft sided seems to be the safest of all three.

I use a plastic carrier for Leo, the same one he sleeps in at night. Might be a good idea to get a soft one for the car though, after seeing this :eek:

I use Buster's Pet Fly's carrier secured in the front as the airbag would just hit the side of the carrier and it has a sturdy frame with a faux leather shell. I have a car seat in the back behind the passenger car seat also with a leash secured to the car for Buster's harness but I started thinking about side airbags as I am getting a new car this year and the possible injuries from side airbag deployment.:(

Pretty much keeping your dog seated will help compared to letting them running around. FWIW all safety gear has webbing. Its made to break away. To reduce impact. If it was rigid it would break your neck or back. Its made to tear to absorb the impact. I wear a harness everyday for work. Buddy Belt doesn't make my size so I wear a Nex Exofit. The most comfortable you can find IME. JME

Very good reminder about side impact air bags. I have them in the front seats of my car and blew one hitting a curb. They can't be disengaged. People who have airbags that engage only when a certain weight is in the seat should double check that it applies to the side impact air bags too.

The Buddy Belt size 10 is big on me. ;):D Thank you for explaining the safety gear. Now I am thinking of the pictures you shared from your work and getting dizzy, palms sweating.

They are. I actually use them on the dog stroller. So I can hang an extra bag or two from it that I can not fit in the under basket ! :D
