OMG we almost ran over a dog in our neighborhood We were turning a corner and there was a tiny black chihuahua that crossed the street right in front of our car to cross the street to go back to his house. I screamed at bf to stop and I grabbed Uni and held her tight and hid my face behind her. I was waiting for the scream. Did not hear it. After we stopped, there was another dog that ran across the street! The first dog ran off but looked to be limping. We stopped and saw the owner, asked if the dog was ok. He did not seemed concerned at all. Bf told him he needs to be on a leash. We asked over and over again, is he ok? We are sorry. Is he ok? Is he ok? He said in Vietnamese, yeah it's fine. I was sick that we had hurt him or almost hurt him and his owner couldn't care less! I seriously felt like I was going to throw up and the owner was so calm. He didn't care! :(:thumbdown |
I hate it when that happens. Are you sure you guys hit him ? Maybe he was already limping. |
Some people just don't care, it totally amazes me  |
I understand what you are feeling ive never ran over a dog but i ran over a raccoon and saw his eyes shining at me before i hit him and its always haunted me. |
Some people just don't get it do they?? So was the little limping dog ok? Did he get hurt? Or was he already limping before you came along? |
How awful for you and truly something your bf couldn't help. Worse is that owner's lack of caring or love for his dog! I'd call Animal Control and see if they will check on the dog as you think the owner was likely disconnected enough to his pet to care or try to find out if he were hurt. That's neglect to me. Dogs rarely limp unless there is injury or pain. AC needs to see to it that the dog is properly looked after if they will. I wonder how many dogs go without needed pain medication or splinting or proper care because owners just don't care enough when a dog suffers trauma. They don't deserve their dogs, who would give their very lives to help them. |
I am so sorry you had to experience this! The poor pup, stuck with a human who doesn't care. This is one of the reasons I am so upset about loose dogs, or dogs not under control of a proper leash, or just boneheads who stand at the end of my driveway with their dogs when I am trying to back out. I will be sick if I hit one. :( |

I don't think we hit him bc i didn't hear a scream or yelp from the dog. It is possible the dog had a limp before. I drive by this house everyday. I have never seen those two chis before. I knew that house had a pug but I thought that was it. The pug is usually outside with the son when he is smoking or working on his car. These two chis were with the older man, I'm guessing the father. When he went back to his house he led the chis to the side gate, not actually into the house. Now I'm left wondering if the chis live outside. :( |
Sounds as if AC really needs to visit that home and check on the welfare of the living conditions and the limping dog just to be safe. The dogs could be living in awful conditions. |
Why have dogs if you don't care I would have flipped on him jeez |
And if he was already limping, he may have pain that needs attending to or a fracture or CL tear gone untreated. The dogs there don't seem to be well-cared for at all in more ways than one. |
I'm not calling AC on them. Let's say if they were living in horrible conditions, AC would take them and no one would adopt them and they would get put down. I saw the dog for a few seconds and I thought it look like it was limping. How many of our dogs here limp from LP or some reason or another that has nothing to do with being neglected or abused. Or it could have just been we saw something that we imagined. It could have also been that since this older person doesn't speak English that that was just how he reacted. I don't know. But I'm not calling AC on him. |

I understand how you feel! We are going through the same thing with neighbors in our subdivision. Their dog is always loose, poops in everyone's yard, and once ran into my garage when I was leaving for work! I had closed my garage door when the owner ran over and said that his dog was in my house! I have asked them numerous times to please keep their dog on a leash, I've also told them about the leash law, but these people are totally clueless and ignore everyone's complaints. I have seen and heard people blowing their horn trying to get the dog out of the street. It's a shame that the dog will have to pay for his owners stupidity!!! |
